Same issue for me, when I return to my selltements from advenuring, it looks like a cross between an earthquake and a burglary. Junk items I have used for decoration are either on the floor or embedded in the table/container they were placed on. Its the straw that has broken the camels back for me. It seems trivial but this is the final fourth wall / immersion breaking bug that has led me to decide to shelve FO4 until next year - too buggy and not enough guns - no 1911, M16, AK47??

Bethesda - your game is 95% complete. I love it, but you need to fix it before we can really embrace this as a classic.

Some of my stuff stays perfectly placed.. while others do not. I can't find the correlation. The alien toy and jangles the monkey have never ever moved from where I first placed them. The little robot model kit I built.. can't keep it placed anywhere and ended up putting it in a safe because I didn't want it to get lost. Sometimes I come home and all the magazines are on the floor. .. but they never actually disappear.. run to a different cell, come back and the magazines are back to where they were.

Same happened with my robot model, put it in a bookcase and it sat there for a few days now it's gone. Doesn't look like it fell through the floorboards like my chess board so I can only assume a) a settler nicked it b ) it's dissapeared. Hope I can find it, or another one.
