1280x1024 not supported?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:51 pm

When I try to set display options, Fallout 4 offers me a choice between two widescreen aspect ratios, despite my not having a widescreen monitor, I'm also invited to choose between two resolutions, neither of which is the native resolution for my monitor. Should I assume that this is a design choice or evidence of a bugged interface. My graphics card is a GTX 980. My husband has encountered the same problem.

I think this game has a fetish for bad UI.

I too have a 1280x1024 monitor, and no matter what I did, I couldn't get the game to use that as my resolution in full screen mode. The only way I was able to fix this was by using the GeForce Experience program and setting Fallout 4 to optimal settings, which in turn, made the game use my resolution.

I've tried using GeForce Experience, but when I scan for games, it says there are no supported games on my PC. (I bought a new PC for Fallout 4, so I don't have a lot of games installed yet.) I'm not sure how people are finding Fallout 4 to make this change.

Have you tried updating your driver? I know there was a new version released a very recently. You could also try running it as an administrator if all else fails.

It's bug I think. Bethesda did not include support for 5:4 monitors (4:3 also). There are 3 topics that mention this problem. My suggestion is to send bug report, and maybe they will fix it. More official reports could help...

R9 290x here.

There is mod on Nexus that can fix this... Not everything, but most things work better with it.

I finally got the resolution I need (I think. It doesn't actually show up in the options menu) by editing the prefsini on my c drive and in my Steamapps folder. This game sure seems intent on putting its worst foot forward.

Changing Fallout4Prefs.ini is easy. But that solves only one problem. Others can be fixed by mod, while few more remain unresolved.
