[Discussion] Settlement Turrets

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:49 am

So, we all know that we could place turrets to protect our beloved settlements, and it's obvious that most of them are gun turrets...

I have some question about them...

- Do we need to resupply their ammunition supply over now and then? This would make people reconsider to put many turrets, and would make the system a bit more cumbersome...

- We noticed that there are at least two types of machine gun turrets in the E3 video: one that is wired into the settlement's electrical (and terminal) grid, and one that is independent and seemed to be powered by fuel. Would we also need to refuel them every now and then? (Again, this would make the turret system more cumbersome, although it adds realism (which some people do care much about)...)

- [Speculation] What types of turret would you guess to appear next e.g. missile turret, laser turret, plasma turret, grenade launcher turret

I'm easy- I'll take laser turrets, bullet turrets...

Probably not Missile Turrets, because way too much risk of something getting close and now there's a hole in my wall.

Yup, I thought so too... I think we will make use of magic ammo boxes for our turrets XD

That is highly likely, because how could we build a turret if we don't know where to screw the bolt or make the circuitry?

... And then it will blow away that sweetroll you've been saving for dinner. Damn!

Ammo at a certain stage becomes plentiful anyway, but will you have to reload the turrets? Maybe, you should but Beth probably wouldn't, I think they would think power from the generator is "good enough." lol

Yup, like the magic companion bullet system hahaha

But honestly, it did save time though, because you don't have to worry about them not shooting...

it'd make sense that any security you hire would tend to them, it'd be nice if you had to manage any you put around a place you dont intend to make a town (but that place probably wouldn't be attacked often, making it much less annoying)

Now, I have another question open for speculation:

Will the proximity of some settlement areas to some locations e.g. raider camp, deathclaw den, super mutant camp affect the frequency of attacks to our settlement? What do you think?

we will probebly have only a hand full of places we can build at and so far from what ive heard it seems like it send enomys at u randomly so i dont think it matters wher u build it u will be attacked the same and it doesent matter if the place is attacked a litel bit any ammo use and rearming of ur turents will be way to much micro manegment beth seems to not want to make ther games annoying thats why weapon reapirs wher gone in skyrim and hopefully in fallout 4 but i do think they should do that making ur base close to a enomy would logicly make u get attacked more and building out in the middel of no wher would make u get attacked very very rarley would be a nice system

and the pendulum should swing the other way as well(not close to enemies or you take the time to wipe nearby groups out and attack frequency should drop )

Now that is a good idea. If there are side quests in the settlement, maybe with this idea, one of those quests might involve wiping out a nearby raider hideout/mutant camp/deathclaw den (yikes) for safety...

definitely could work ,but those spots should regen given enough time(I mean it's not like the people from our town are going to sweep the site frequently ,might be fun if it changed what was there as well ,first time raiders ,next thing you know it's a Deathclaw den ,it would really add to the living world aspect)

From what we have seen there appears to be machine gun turrets, flamers (that seem to be linked to a laser trip wire sort of thing), fortifications for your guards and a manned mortar......my question is about mines, can you use them or will the local settlers wander into them when your away.

thus far only raiders are confirmed ,but we still have a long time and a large amount of gameplay to be revealed so who knows.

Hope the AI is that smart to spot those mines... Nothing makes you angry than your weapons trader taking a little stroll to the gate and goes:

"Ooo, what's this? Maybe if I step on these, something will happen!"

*BOOM*

As for the mortars, they are definitely my favourite. Really. That's my favourite base defense in FO4, and I'm sure that I will put a lot of those things in my settlement...

Preferably on towers.
