I think a lot of people focus perhaps a bit too much on Fallout 3's Replicated Man quest. I strongly doubt the Institute or the Railroad will be major powerhouses in FO4. Don't forget that (according to Zimmer at least) most androids don't consider themselves slaves at all and none are as advanced as Harkness.

The PC being an android would make zero sense. First off, that would mean the pre-war period is some sort of dream. Why would you, as an android creator, want to program into your android an emotional attachment to other people and the determination to get out there in the world to find them? You want your android to believe it is your property, not a man in charge of his own fate.

Second, Harkness is said to be the most advanced android created by Zimmer yet. The PC would have to be on par with Harkness and such models must be very rare. Making it all the more unlikely that you would have your android believe it's human.

Third, the vault. The vault is not the Institute. To have this android manufactured in a vault makes no sense when it could have been created in the tech haven that is the Institute.

I simply don't believe Fallout 4 will be The Great Android Game Where Everyone Is An Android And You Are Also An Android 4.

Not to mention it would make the entire family approach disappear - why would you care about Shaun or anybody else when you're just an android? So yeah, Beth really loves the family thing, no way they're sacrifcing that for a cheap twist that everybody guessed back when the first Boston rumors popped up (I think it was 2012, not sure though).

Meh, wouldn't it be easier to be a clone? Nah I don't think the SS will be an android, just a guy who got either really lucky or unlucky.

Obviously, he could be programmed to think that he was using stimpacks or being affected by radiation.

Being an android would open a whole new customization path since you could probably do modifications on yourself.

If you can't just do modifications on yourself regardless of being human or an android, I'd say that's a pretty big missed opportunity.

Your character can have her/his brain removed - and still be connected to it by tesla-coil transmitters (also spine and heart remvoed) but Android can't be human enough to be affected by chems or raditation? I don't buy it. More "insane" / illogical things than an android being affected by chems is already possible.

I pray for it every day.
