Black screen flickeringworking in taskbar on startup

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:54 pm

Whenever i open Fallout it crashes most of the time. sometimes however, it starts and opens to a black flickering screen that just rapidly switches to my desktop and a black screen. I can hear the Fallout music in the background.

Also, when i open it in Windowed mode I can SEE it running in my taskbar when I hover over it, I hear music and see the S.P.E.C.I.A.L video's. Just when i click it, it doesn't do anything, it doesn't crash, it doesn't freeze, it just does nothing but play the music and go to the the start menu where I can see the power armor.

Please help me, i have tried most of the bug fixes people have posted online. I have tried changing iPresentInterval='1' to a '0'. I am playing at the lowest settings possible, updated and set my CCC to the lowest 3D, anti-aliasing and ansitropical filters.

I also manually installed the vcredistx64 and x86 files as that was giving me trouble at first as well.

I barely have knowledge about pc's so it'd be great if any of you could lend me a hand.

For the latter issue, where in windowed mode the game starts minimized in the taskbar, try this: go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\my games\Fallout4 and open Fallout4.ini, then under [Display] -heading find bTopMostWindow=0 and bMaximizeWindow=0 and change them both to 1 and save the file.

There is A. no text by that name there,

B. I added them both to [display] to see if it made any difference, it does not :(

Hi Willem-alexander,

Could you please post a dxdiag so we can take a look at your system? If you need steps on how to do so, you can find them https://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/25236

Oh, okay. You probably need to edit the Fallout4Prefs.ini in the same place. Same values. It looks like I have the values in both files; I probably edited them both.. I guess it's the prefs one that actually works.

Hi Willem-alexander,

Upon reviewing your specs, we see that you're running both on-board graphics and a discreet card. You may want to see if you can update your AMD drivers, as AMD has released a new driver update this week that helps with this very problem.

If you're still having the same issue after updating your drivers, you may need to contact AMD about making sure you can prevent your computer from launching the game using your on-board graphics. Occasionally when you have switchable graphics like your computer, it won't switch to the correct GPU when launching the game.

As this process is different depending on your configuration, you'll want to be sure to contact the manufacturer for specific instructions with this.

If you're still unable to get it working, please be sure to contact support by submitting your dxdiag and msinfo to https://help.bethesda.net/app/ask
