Huge FPS Drops in Leexington and Boston

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:12 pm

So i was playing the game for roughly 6h and i was totally satisfied with pretty much everything (except a few glitches here and there).

And now i arrived in lexington and the big city area in boston and my fps is totally unstable. Now i'm getting 20fps when i look in certain directions and i can't even go ten meters without having my fps jumping up and down again.

I've tried to find a sweetspot in the launcher settings but i just can't get it stable without making the game look like hot garbage. It's totally unplayble for me at the moment.

My system:

i5 4570

r9 290 4gb

8gb ddr3

edit: sry, it's lexington, not leexington of course

Yeah, exactly the same for me. Generally 60 everywhere, then I hit Lexington and whoa, drops in certain directions. Big ones, more or less by half.

It was fine after some ini tweaks I applied to stop the stuttering when I first started, so it was disappointing to see this. Out of curiousity did you apply the iPresentInterval=0 and iFPSClamp tweaks?

only the ifpsclamp tweak to see how it works in combination with afterburner/rtss, but i haven't tried disabling vsync yet, no.

I get FPS drops in those areas too, it happens with or without stutter tweaks and my CPU and GPU aren't maxed so it looks like engine (this is Bethesda here...) and driver optimisations are needed.

yea my gpu is at 30-40% when it happens, cpu is at 50-60%. It's like Markarth (skyrim) all over again.

Think I found something that helps. I turned down both shadow settings to medium, and walking around Lexington is at least tolerable now. I should have known really, I had one hell of a time with shadows in Skyrim and trying to get them at a decent equalibrium between looking good and performance. Shadows were FPS killer for me, especially the distance setting as it has to draw more of them, but you don't expect it with a new game. Anyway at medium they still look quite decent so may be worth tinkering with them more.

I also tried getting rid of iFPSClamp and using a frame limiter and from my cards control panel, but still stutters like hell and it bugs me no end so I put it back in.

Try going to Forest Grove Marsh.

While there my frame rate falls from 50/60 to 10/28, and once it crashed with my computer telling me that it was low on memory. And I have 8gbs of RAM.

Ah well, can't be arsed fiddling around with it any longer... It was the same with fallout 3, new vegas and skyrim. And i don't count on bethesda fixing it before the modders come around.

Guess it's back to witcher 3 then...

You guys are witnessing your 'true' minimum framerates!
They manifest only in demanding locations.
iPresetInterval IS a framerate limiter! Default (iPresetInterval = 1) is 60 FPS.
You'd better select a more modest preset, and maybe disable AA. For now.
nVidia drivers will improve, and Radeon doesn't ever have drivers yet!
Neither SLI or CrossFire are yet supported.
And a new game patch will of course be released in maybe a coupla weeks.
But for now, tune up your nVidia Control Panels for Maximum Performance before launching the game.
And better knock off the Ultra settings...

It was the same with skyrim and all other bethesda games. Ini tweaks won't change anything and it has nothing to do with the settings because the fps isn't really affected by that. This game need serious optimisation...

Guys, could you try out my patch as a possible fix for the issue? http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1545374-rel-unofficial-patch-0280/

In enblocal.ini turn on frame limiter, turn off (if set to true) vsync and disable vsync in game by present interval parameter. ForceVideoMemorySize=true
VideoMemorySizeMb=6000 also at start (better manually modify like i described it on Nexus page for ENBoost patch).

Also try just for testing in that place to set iShadowMapResolution=512, if it helps a lot or not.
