Hey there folks. Ever since I encountered the character Kellogg in my play-through of Fallout 4 I'd always wondered what his age was. When he kidnapped Shaun and when you finally meet up with him he looks the same.. despite so much time having passed by.

I decided to finally try and deduce his age using available information and the Fallout timeline and I believe I've managed to get it within a range of +/-4~6 years.

For reference purposes the Fallout timeline may be found here:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline

2174 - This is roughly the year Kellogg is suspected of being born. Give or take a few years. This year was deduced from the year below which is in the game..

2186 - Kellogg is sitting in bed at this time talking with his mother. In the background you can hear the radio and it references the formation of the New California Republic and Aradesh (FIRST NCR President) being President.

On a side note Kellogg looks to be in his teens in this scene. This scene and all of its references really helps deduce his age.

Links to audio clips for the radio from this scene:

2227 - The year Kellogg is confirmed to be in the Commonwealth at the latest. This is the year he kidnaps Shaun. At this point of time Kellogg is roughly 53 years old.

2287? - Kellogg meets the Sole Survivor once again and this time they extract vengeance upon him.

It is unknown whether or not Kellogg is a full synth or just using implants at this point. However he definitely had augmentations to live as long as he did and to look the same 60 years later.

Estimated age when Kellogg meets Sole Survivor for second time: 113

(ROUGHLY) 113 years old?! Kind of hard to believe isn't it? Kellogg is ancient!

Not really, considering the Sole Survivor remarks that he's packed with cybernetics when you loot him. He's not a full Synth, but the Institute clearly invested heavily into him, and unlike the rest of the world, forward scientific progress never stopped for the Institute. It stands to reason their quality of life would be quite a lot higher then your average Wastelander.

Given his history though, I doubt Kellogg really wanted to be alive by the time you meet up again.

He's basically a person augmented by cybernetic enhancements.

I've kill all the institute just because of that, when we kill him i dont see any information that make me belive that he is 100+ years old.

So for me the shaun part is a lie ! If the institute have the power to make him become so old without changing why wont they apply it to "Shaun" ?

I'm a bit sad that my gaming experience was so altered by this story. Maybe i could have made others choices if Kellogg was clearly a synth when i killed him.

If you'd read some terminals inside the institute you'd have your answers.

Yeah, some of the terminals mention that they've performed procedures to extend his life.

It says that Kellogg is almost (Or over?) a century old and could even live up to 200 years if he wanted to or something like that.

it is explained to you, the Institute relied on him so much they extended his life with advanced medicine and cybernetic implants. So yeah, he's old. More machine than man now, bitter and twisted...

I finished the game and I found no use for them. Just put them in a box with your Grognak comics *just in case* :)

Why not put your comics on a magazine rack?

That sounds about right, Kellogg should be around 10-12 when the radio message for the NCR came up which makes him around 100-105 current day.

What I want to know is why didn't Nick mention anything alluding to the time passed. He mentiond seeing Kellog with a 10yr old boy, but failed to mention that that was 50+ years ago...

Here's Shaun's Terminal on Kellog and his age.

What I want to know is why Kellog is such an important character in this game. In doesn't add up. He's literally just a hired gun. He should be a nobody. Why spend all this time fleshing him out when you could be fleshing out Shaun's character...?

A proffessional mercenary/assassin that was also highly feared is hardly " nobody"

He isn't just a hired gun though. Maybe in his past, sure, but not now. He's a high-ranking Institute official pretty much, he IS the Institute above ground. He's also the main antagonist for the first act of the game.

Well, for starters, Kellog is a vessel through which future stories can be told.

He worked for the Shi (And that's a blast from Fallout's past, right there) before the Institute. Heck, for all we know he might have still been working for them as a double agent within the Institute. We know he had a wife and child of his own...and something happened to them. So Kellog had enemies, enemies that we may end up dealing with. Then there's his former employers...

I dunno. NCR name drops I can understand (New Vegas did reintroduce them to the folks who got onboard during Fallout 3), but the Shi? I can't believe they'd be casually name dropped with no follow through.

He mentions the Hub as well, which is only a town mind, but still. He mentions a lot of the west.

Let alone he seems to have traveled on foot from coast to coast with little to no help from others. And that was in his pre-cyborg days. Dude was a beast.
