Can we get info about the new GECK and Papyrus?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:33 pm

  • What new features can we expect from the GECK for Fallout 4?
  • What changes and upgrades have been made to Papyrus?
  • What can we now do with Papyrus for Fallout 4 that we can't do with Papyrus for Skyrim? Where did you find shortcomings and how did you address them?
  • Will the scripts we've written for Skyrim require significant changes for Fallout 4?
  • Can we get a preview of the updated scripting language reference?
  • When can we expect a wiki a la CreationKit.com to go online?

Um, I don't think they'll come out until next year at the latest...

The new GECK won't be coming out until early 2016.
I doubt any info will be released until then.

Did they confirm that? That's a pain if so. The Skyrim wait really delayed modding when half of them had moved on before they got the CK. It took years to get to the level Oblivion managed in months.

Even if we don't get GECK information it would be super cool and helpful to get some details on the scripting language beforehand. That's all pretty much in place. I wonder if SmkViper browses this forum? ;)

They did. GECK won't be out until "early 2016". Yes, that means FO4 modding will be just as painful at first as Skyrim modding was. I wouldn't doubt it if history repeats itself and we end up with another TESSnip fiasco. People just can't be patient and wait. It's a good time window to see the vanilla game for what it's worth.

I don't mind the wait, it'd give us a good while with the vanilla game to play through and enjoy and get a good idea of what kind of mods we want to make.

Having said that, I hope scripts are contained within the esps.

Skyrim was released on November 11, 2011. Creation Kit was released on February 7, 2012, although originally planned for January 2012.

Fallout 4 will be released on November 10, 2015. GECK will be released on February 6, 2016?

Doesn't matter to me. We'll be modding Fallout 4 long before the new GECK comes out.

I uploaded mod #1859 to the Skyrim Nexus on November 27, 2011—just 16 days after Skyrim was released—and then #2311 on December 1 and #3313 on December 11. From those numbers, you can see how quickly we started growing the Skyrim Nexus. Two weeks after Skyrim was released, and months before there was a Creation Kit, there were nearly 2,000 mods. Fallout 4 will crush the Nexus, so hopefully, Bethesda.net can alleviate some of that burden.

In the meantime, I'd still like to get an early peek at scripting for Fallout 4.

The Todd says he wants the Creation Kit out in January if possible, and mods on consoles soon after.

But yeah, I need that extra time just to get a feel for the vanilla game.
