Xbox live gold to get to mods?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:06 am

has there been any info on Microsoft's end in the whole mods deal? like when Todd said that the consoles would get mods free, did he mean there would be no payment in the process at all, or just Beth's specific end/involvement was free but gold membership would still need to be purchased in order to reach said free stuff through microsoft's network? I can't find anything on the gold question.

You don't need it for anything like DLC, patches, or other software so no it probably won't require Xbox live gold.

They already said it would be free at the Microsoft conference. We also know that mods are coming to Xbox first, and Beth "hopes" to bring it to Playstation eventually. We will just have to wait and see I suppose.

I can understand the worry though. I stopped using my Xbox because things advertised as "Free", such as Halo Waypoint, actually required Gold to use despite being able to download on Silver. When I only play single player and I can't access things I've unlocked in single player without subscribing to a multi-player service it's time to stop trusting the system.

Oh right I forgot it costs money for Gold haha. Been on a year sub for awhile. But yeah I would assume that your most likely going to need gold?

I'd put money on requiring Gold with Microsoft's track record. I don't know if it's the same on X1, but on my 360 I couldn't use the Netflix App without Gold, despite already paying a premium for Netflix itself, and the PS3 App being perfectly free to use at the time.

That's just business though, and the majority pay for Gold as it is, relatively speaking, cheap. Why would Microsoft stop now?

Mods will have to most likely be uploaded/screened by their new bethesda.net medium. Same way Doom maps will get shared.

However they already compared it with steam workshop in how it will work, no screening just removing stuff afterward, note that screening cost money and is no guarantee anyway.

i would say unsure, anyways Steam's workshop is abit bad without a manager due to the fact it will put things in the load order you get the mods in ,so it gets crashy after abit

They removed the paywall so these apps now run without Gold.

I can see MS putting the mods behind the wall though.

Thanks for the info. Good to know Microsoft have done something right by Xbox since I started using PC as my primary platform. I'm glad X1 users aren't having the same annoyances I faced all those years ago.

Mods are a potentially very lucrative business. I've known more than a few people do the same as I did and switch from consoles to PC for the modding potential. That's got to be a tempting bargaining chip for Microsoft to charge for Gold. That said, seeing as how the curated Skyrim workshop blew up, and the fact that once premium Apps are now free they might not risk it.

Highly doubt it myself... I see Bethesda doing the whole mod ordeal on their own, just that it'll be allowed for Xbox One consoles (and hopefully PS4) eventually. However, anything can happen really and I just hope Microsoft doesn't do it. Their Gold requirement is already stupid enough.

And the stuff they will be removing is the usual stuff. Mods that violate copyright laws and the likes. As well as anything that violates Microsoft's terms, I imagine, like nvde mods.

True, however it require that someone report it.

I had some topless images of an Khajiit on steam workshop for years now, Some extra hairs and I forgot to put on clothes before taking images :)

Got some kids with stupid comments but no request to change it.

Not too worried about XBL gold, personally. I get yearly subscriptions because I wind up getting 12 games for the price of one, which completely justifies the cost- for me.
