Modding Fallout 4 - what toolsscripting language etc?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:49 am

Hi,

I'm really interested in modding for Fallout 4; probably scripting some kind of campaign.

I should like to know if anyone has any information on whether the tools and scripting language will be similar to those used for Skyrim or previous Fallout games.

Whilst I'm an experienced developer, I haven't modded for either of these games; and I'm wondering if taking a look at these tools etc now will prepare me well for Fallout 4 modding or would this be mostly a waste of time?

Could a developer on F4 give us a "hint"? e.g. "Getting to know the Fallout 3 mod toolset may well be beneficial"... :)

Does anyone in the community know?

thanks,

Sabre.

I think it's to early to tell as the Creation Kit won't be available till early 2016, hopefully the give some info closer to launch. As it's based on creation engine probably more akin to skyrim modding then again you never know.

I do hope that scripts are divorced from game saves and that mods in general are more removal friendly this time around.

No one would really know as of yet. But if you do have any previous Bethesda game, it's not such a stretch to say FO4's will be very similar to mod.

The modding tools might end up being the same as the modding tools for all of the video games developed by Bethesda Games Studios, with a few improvements I hope. The Creation Kit for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has a few improvements compared to the Construction Set.

The modding tools for the PC version of Fallout 4 will be named the GECK just like for the PC versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, even though Fallout 4 runs on a new version of the Creation Engine. There is absolutely no reason to name the modding tools Creation Kit or Creation Kit 2. That should be for The Elder Scrolls VI.

Same thing for Papyrus that scripting tool might not be named Papyrus for Fallout 4, but might get another name.
