So... Cooking?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 1:55 pm

I was watching the crafting segment of the E3 video for the hundredth time and I had a thought "would that system work for making sandwiches?"

Think about it for a second. You'd be able to make each sandwich piece by piece. Bread or wrap. Tomatos or lettuce. Bacon or Extra bacon! And each part could provide a tiny bonus that would stack up for the entire sandwich. A bit of rad roach could help resist rads, while a slice of molerat could grant night vision.

To top it off, taking ranks in the survival skill/ Survival Perk would allow you to make bigger sandwiches. More toppings, better breads, and secret sauces!

Tell me what you think. Am I on to something, or just a mad man?

The Broodwich "forged in darkness from wheat harvested in Hell's half-acre, baked by Beelzebub, slathered with mayonnaise from the evil eggs of a powerful dark chicken, beaten into sauce by the hands of a one-eyed madman, [with] cheese boiled from the rancid teat of a three-headed fanged cow [and] layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood."

A great addition to the series in NV, but I hope it has been turned into a more useful game mechanic though.

Just go easy on the agave sauce this time. :P

Is love to see cooking return, especially since we know we can grow crops in our settlements. If hardcoe mode makes a return, cooking is practically guaranteed.

In Skyrim its useless because you have regenareting health.

If we have that to in F4 it will be useless to.

You've not eaten enough garlic bread in Skyrim. Food can have a variety of effects, not just restoring health, in garlic bread's case, cure disease. I'd find being able to prepare a radiation resistance salad, for instance, very useful. Overall, I can see a definite niche for food and drink if they go the less powerful than a drug, but with fewer risks if you prepare it yourself from home-grown ingredients route.

Also, remember you cannot disassemble the Broodwich, even if you DON'T like sun-dried tomatoes..

There is this concept called "roleplaying" though, seeing as how FO is an RPG and so is Skyrim.

They should tie in regenerating health to eating. So, you eat something and you get a temporary health regeneration along with whatever unique benefits (or debuffs?) that particular food item provides.

Food should have long level / long term effects rather than medicine who is short term high level. Radiation is an perfect excample something who reduce radiation over long time would be nice.

Health is another one, health regen in skyrim was not an issue as you could just use an healing spell, and you would use an healing spell if health fell down to 50%. Yes regen was too fast, Has an health regen in FO:NV because of an bonus item water flask you drink of automatically. This works better as its so low level you will heal up is below 80% its just to heal minor stuff.

Well, first, regenerating health was one of the worst design choices they made in Skyrim (and that is out of a multitude of bad design choices), and it would be an even worse decision in Fallout. "Welcome to the apocalypse, but no worries because your health regenerates." -_- But even if health does regenerate, cooking would still add to roleplaying. I don't use need mods in Morrowind or Skyrim, but I still eat regular meals and sleep regular schedules.

There is cooking in the game. Probably not what you suggest but... There's cooking in the game.

Well the new magic system must have been more than an magnitude worse, attributes an second, health regen is more in the line of the UI or no top and bottom slots.

Removing any semblance of a story was probably the worst for me, followed by attributes. Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to think of many good design choices in Skyrim. Archery was kind of fun, I guess? And cooking was pretty well done except that the animation they used gave me a headache (i.e.: please, no animated crafting).

I'm excited about FO4, but every time I remember Skyrim my enthusiasm dims a bit. :( Still, S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is still there, which is an automatic improvement over Skyrim. And if nothing else, character creation looks fun--not that that saved DA:I.
