Why do you actually think combat should take so long?
So, why is it valid? Why is a pure DR system desirable?

Actually i don't really care. I'm a numberphile and i'm really only interested in the math.
I don't, and it doesn't in a DR system.
None of the enemies in Fo3 or its DLC had DR, with the exception of the top 3 alien types in MZ. Combat took long in that game for no other reason beyond the fact that enemies had massive amounts of HP.
A problem easily solved by lowering enemy HP..... like they did in Skyrim. Which is why it takes, at most, a minute to take down even a legendary dragon, the things with THE highest HP in the game, and it only takes that long because it flies around so much,
Every humanoid enemy wearing armor had DR. Are you high?
I don't really know how the system worked in FO3 or FONV, and we won't know for sure how the system works in FO4, but I've watched a video online that had some really interesting speculation.
The basic premise is that in the video for the E3 video we saw that the weapons had a number then two types of icons next to them - a crosshair icon and a lightning bolt icon, representing physical or energy damage. When looking at the power armor modifications, there was the same thing - numbers then icons, a shield and the same lightning bolt this time, which was speculated to be physical and energy resistance. My guess is that if the damage of your enemies weapons' does is higher than your physical or energy dr then you are hurt for however much it's greater by (5,10 and so on) and if it's at or lower then it doesn't do anything save damage the armor (since armor needs to be repaired and maintained).
Given that some of those power armor pieces had physical damage resistance in the hundreds and most weapons didn't do nearly that much I think we'll be fine. We will feel like a walking tank in power armor like the trailers show.
I'll keep looking for that vid and edit it in when I find it.
Mostly miniscule amounts that amounted to nothing.
Even in the most extreme situations, such Enclave hellfire troopers which had 60DT, human NPCs went down in literally SECONDS with any decent gun.
Thus further proving that DR has nothing to do with how long combat takes.
Yes, it does. You are completely ridiculous.
World War I and II it was used on Tanks. Modern day tanks however have armor that is too thick for an AMR.
Fixed it for you. The highest DT enemies in the game, were Deathclaws (15 DT), Giant Radscorpions (18 DT), Legion Centurions (23 DT) NCR Heavy Troopers (24 DT), NCR Veteran Rangers (24 DT & 30% DR) and Brotherhood Paladins in T-51b Power Armor (31 DT). With the exception of Giant Radscorpions, most of those are uncommon.
Compare that to the Capital Wasteland's Enclave in Tale of Two Wastelands ("mod" that allows you to play Fallout 3 in Fallout NV's engine, so DT). The Enclave wear Enclave Power Armor (Advanced Power Armor MkII), for a total of 38 DT. Enclave become fairly common after a certain point in the main questline, and they come in groups of 3-5. Alot of them use Plasma Rifles. They can damage you through even Power Armor, and they'll murder you if you wear Light Armor. Pistols, SMGs and even Assault Rifles are practically useless against them. Even weapons like the Medicine Stick take several shots to kill them.
The DT system, makes you swap weapons and ammo depending on what your going up against. With the DR system, raw DPS is king.
Fallout 3 with DR, the Xuanlong Assault Rifle was king for killing anything and everything. I'd kill Enclave faster with the Xuanlong than i could with a Gauss Rifle or Missile Launcher. Fighting Bloatflys or Radroaches? Xuanlong. Fighting Raiders or Talon Company? Xuanlong. Fighting Super Mutants or Enclave? Xuanlong.
Now with DT effect in TTW. Fighting Bloatflys or Radroaches? Xuanlong. Fighting Raiders? Xuanlong. Fighting Talon Company? Xuanlong with AP Ammo, or Minigun. Fighting Super Mutants? Minigun. Fighting Enclave? AMR or Gauss Rifle.
Well, I popped in here to say what I wanted to say about dr in FO4 and now I'll pop back out.
Here is a video of me taking out the enemy with THE highest DR of a human enemy in Fo3 or its DLC.
It takes less then 10 seconds to kill him, so no, DR does not make combat longer.(give it about 5-6mintues as youtube is still processing the video)

You are totally missing the point of weapon types.
Fallout 3 is what made weapon types matter, by making each one useful for a specific situation. NV and its DT system did nothing but make every weapon viable in every situation, thus destroying any sort of weapon specialty in the game.
I agree 100% with LongKnife. Hope it does not turn that way in FO4, and that there is something we missed/not shown in the trailers that add to the damage mechanic.
Also: AwesomePossum, you really sound like psychopath twisting every arguments in a way that pleases your case. I think you might be under the influence or never played NV, because it is clear that wearing a T-51B power armor makes the game easier than wearing a security armor. You have an obsession over the old ways of bethesda or you totally hate obsidian... I can't pinpoint. But pure DR will be the best bet for a boring end-game.
Yes, because when both the hard math, and the game's own lead dev say otherwise, it means I have never played the game or are under the influence.
If I hated Obsidian, why would I be referencing their own dev's changes to the game?
I really wonder about people sometimes.
Post limit.
And with the tone that this has gone, we do not need a new thread.
