FPS issues? TRY THIS! Also, SLI fix.

Hey guys, been working on getting this game running well for a few days now and this is what I've come up with. I never drop under 60FPS under any circumstances now, V-synced and triple buffered

These are my specs: CPU: Intel Core [email protected], GPU: nVidia Geforce GTX760x2 in SLI, RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz 16GB DDR3, SDD: Samsung 850EVO 250GB.

First of all, if you're running SLI and it isn't working, do this:

Right click your Desktop, open up nVidia Control Panel. Go into Manage 3D settings, click on the Program Settings tab, Select a program to customize, select Fallout4 (fallout4.exe) or add it if you have to. (Just make sure it's the game's main .exe)

Scroll down and choose SLI rendering mode, change it to Force alternate frame rendering 2. SLI will now be active. This is a temp. fix until Bethesda adds SLI support if they do.

Now, to the good stuff.

DO NOT TURN SHADOW DISTANCE HIGHER THAN MEDIUM.

With Shadow Distance on Medium, fDirShadowDistance=3000 & fShadowDistance=3000.

With Shadow Distance on High, fDirShadowDistance=14000 & fShadowDistance=14000.

That's almost 5x the shadow draw distance between the two settings! This instantly sees a 20FPS drop for me.

You can go into your .ini and change this manually to a happy medium like 5000-6000, but keep in mind that everytime you open up the launcher's option's menu and hit OK, it will set it back to whatever you have it set to in the options menu.

Now onto problem #2.

The drop down menu at the bottom of the View Distance tab in Fallout 4's Advanced options titled "Object Detail Fade".

On Medium,

fMeshLODLevel2FadeDist=3000
fMeshLODLevel1FadeDist=6000

On High,

fMeshLODLevel2FadeDist=4000

fMeshLODLevel1FadeDist=8000

On Ultra,

fMeshLODLevel2FadeDist=99999
fMeshLODLevel1FadeDist=99999

Uh. What?

Yeah. So basically what this causes is the game to not delete meshes after you've left an area. No matter how far you go. Resulting in meshes being loaded while you're on the opposite side of the map. Before changing this setting, I'd see 60 FPS until I traveled any kind of distance. Do yourself a favour and don't turn this above High. There is no need to anyway.

If any of you want to test these numbers, its simple. Open up your documents/my games/fallout4 folder, open up Fallout4Prefs.ini, find whichever value, close notepad, change the option, open Fallout4Prefs.ini again and the number should have changed.

Best of luck guys and I hope this helps some of you having issues.

Chris
