Startup Crash Fixed (Playing for 34 hours no problem)

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:44 pm

Hello everyone.

For the first 48 hours of FO4 my roommate and myself have been absolutely trying everything we could to fix this problem. The laptop we run it on (Lenovo Y50-70 / Win10) meets the minimum requirements and then some.. not the top of the line model but it shouldn't be dumping to the desktop or, most times, totally freezing the entire laptop altogether when only 23 seconds into the game or trying to exit the vault.

So this might just be dumb luck.. but we wanted to try everything. So we ended up doing a system restore to 11/08/2015 back before we updated the Nivida drivers or got the beta patch or whatever. We attempted to reinstall steam and we re-downloaded FO4 before the reinstall and it did nothing. But for some reason when we restored and downloaded for the 3rd time.. it finally started working. We're amazed.

It could just be a fluke and we got lucky.. but I hope this could help at least a couple of you out there. I know those first two days of initially playing for 10 minutes and then not being able to pass the load screen or exit the vault without a freeze or a crash was maddening.

SO if you have prepped your PC for this release like they have told you.. forget all that noise and the stupid beta patch.. restore your system to a time since before you started powdering it in preparation of FO4. Even if it's a month ago.

Hopefully this is useful to some. Good luck everyone.. post your results.

I had to roll back to factory settings as Windows 10 no longer recognized my wi-fi card. I'd managed 30 hours on FO4 with Windows 10 by just turning off Ambient Occlusione2

I had to roll back to factory settings as Windows 10 no longer recognized my wi-fi card. I'd managed 30 hours on FO4 with Windows 10 by just turning off Ambient Occlusion. Now back on Windows 8.1 the same settings result in a flickering black screen and noise in the background. Also I was lucky to install in a time when a beta patch was offered that fixed problems with realtek something or other.
