If I'm the General of the Minutemen.....

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:18 pm

Why is it, that every single time I have to talk to Preston, he is either sleeping or sitting in a chair?

How does HE find out information about places in need, before I do?

Why cant HE go and check out a settlement in trouble?

Where is my authority??? Lazy SOB :)

I'd like to be able to dismiss him from the Minutemen and send him off into the wasteland.....

You should have read the job description before agreeing. Its like getting an "assistant manager" job at a fast food restaurant. We will move you to salary, pay you the same amount, no overtime and more hours of work; but it is a promotion.

Good idea, they should have included your question in the dialogue options.

I especially liked when he told me I was now the General... and in the same sentence ordered me to go help a settlement. I would have told him to go if I had the option.

I was thinking about building 4 walls around him, with no chairs or a bed. Put him in solitary for a few.

i really hate preston. i can't get rid of him since he's a quest giver and can't use him as a companion, which might be a bug or something I'm not sure. but what i would love to do, is kick him out along with macy long and never see those two again. oh and that husband of macy should be able to die.

The ability to actually you know command your troops will actually be a freaking great addition.

As well as upgrade the MinuteMen's stupid weapons and armor.

Every other faction has heavy troopers. But the MinuteMen all in the end wear useless dusters.

You do get flares you can use to summon minnutemen if they're nearby and later flares to call in artillery strikes.

I wish I had the option to give general to preston, he cared way more about it then I ever did.

I joined the brotherhood, so I would have liked it if I could have just helped them out with raiders and what not. Like danse said, win hearts and minds.

On that note, I had issue with only being able to claim settlements for the minutemen. Why can't I do this for the BoS beyond getting support from farmers with their crops? Surely having a few safe points in the commonweath would be tactically advantageous. Giving the minute men Artillery was a bit of a itch too. I saw it and went. "Oh damn, thats really powerful, maybe I can give these plans to the brotherhood." But no, I *had* to keep it for the minutemen. Danse was excited to see what tech they had too, but he wasn't too happy to see it in their hands either.

General that doesn't really lead.

I'd send those minutemen squads to do the settlement clean up for me.

not to mention most of my settlements under attack are armed well enough to repel without my intervention.

information usually travels UP the chain of command, scouts report to their superiors, they report to theirs, etc. till finally it gets to you. so it makes sense that Preston (who I would assume holds the rank of Colonel along with Shaw) would end up giving you the information.

though at this point the general would usually delegate back down the chain of command what needs to be done instead of taking care of it themselves. :P

personal things I would like to see:

-the ability to delegate the various settlement problems to the minutemen with varied chance of success based on how big they are and there gear (gear leads into next part)

-gear, the ability to invest in the minutemen to increase there effectiveness (better weapons and armor, they are all after wearing the minutement outfit so could wear full armor over it, and the possibility of more of them)

-there overall strength would be based on # of settlements (up to a cap) their gear (based on investments up to a cap) and the amount of artillery you have at various settlements (up to a cap)

because I would love nothing more then to delegate all those radiant quests I can never seem to be rid of.

Generals are very rarely on the front lines, yet we're constantly the ones having to go out and help settlements without backup. Sure, we can use flares.. but they only work when there's an allied settlement nearby.

Why can't we tell Preston to go out instead? Or send a small band of settlers to do it? That's kind of what a general does.

Someone who actually gets how it works and understands there should be an additional game mechanic to it.

Also it's not like they didn't do this "command stuff" before yet. In Sheogorath's Realm (in TES) you can send troops to villages in distress. And that game is nearing being 10 years old. :sadvaultboy:

Same reason why the Boss is doing tags and front line grunt work in the Saints Row games, it is more "fun" to do things yourself rather than delegate it. I disagree but I'm in the minority here.

Also it is impied that the General is supposed to be the best fighter and taking on raiders and a deathclaw and surviving totally puts you in that category.

You're a frontline General in an organization where everyone has to pull their weight, desk job generals can more easily exist in a world of beaurocracy, social stability and easier logistics.

It all makes in universe sense for in universe reasons.

You're the strongest so you're the General.

Just like being the leader in Dragon Age Inquisition, doing Fed Ex quests and other mediocre tasks that are beneath someone of your status.

If I'm the General, I'm going to be ordering people to clear these spots and build these settlements. That's what General's do, give orders and make sure those orders get done. That's why I'm not really supportive of the Minutemen, it's Preston giving me the missions that I can choose to take on and do myself, not order Minutemen to complete. I understand that I am rebuilding them, but it sure seems like I'm doing all the damn work.

BoS Initiate, getting ordered to go for this and that, makes sense.

IMO pursuing the Minutemen only really makes sense if you're going the Railroad route just because of the Ballistic Fiber. A bunch of Revolutionary War cosplayers are going to war with evil robots and an army of mecha warriors in nothing but cloth? Nah.

Because if you could send other people to do every side quest and kill all the raiders...

Wouldn't that kinda, y'know, ruin the fun?

Speak for yourself. My settlers are decked in heavy combat armor.

Funny is having enough defenses around a settlement to hammer raiders in power armor and being asked to help defend it.
One arrives, and the heavy machine guns have done it all after a few seconds.
I did loot the raiders though. :)
