eh, we haven't seen anything pre war until now, so it could be other vaults were guarded as well. Makes sense, cant have everyone bum rushing the vaults as the bombs are falling.

Yep. Your family in FO4 is pretty well off - enough so that one of them is a lawyer, plus you've got a family robot and a paid-for spot in a vault. You aren't lower class in any way whatesoever, or even touching the middle part of middle class.

Remember the Fallout Bible isn't exactly considered cannon by Bethesda its respected & used but its also ignored, altered and not everything is considered cannon by Bethesda.
