Settlement Unstabibilty

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:26 am

I've been playing State Of Decay despite my hate for it I've actually picked up an Idea that would work in Fallout 4, I think we should have a morale system. Like when you have high morale, everyone's in a good mood, and is willing to do everything. When you have low morale, you have riots, people stealing and starting votes on who should be the leader of the town. And if they win you lose power of the settlement, unless you get the morale up again.

There is. Settlements will have a happiness meter. If the meter is high, your settlers will be happier. If the meter is low, they'll probably begin to leave or not work so efficiently. This is pretty much in Fallout Shelter where a lot of those ideas will be in Fallout 4.

I don't want to have to micro-manage my settlements and people's moods while exploring the wastes.

Stuff like that is usually just an annoyance, and an unnecessary distraction from the rest of the game.

I'd imagine the extent of that is "These people want a water source and a few homes"

this is pure speculation from myself, but i tend to think that they released fallout shelter to give us an idea on what the settlements will be like, without giving us any answers directly (its still in development so it could change before release). i hope you can send people out into the wastes like in FO: Shelter to scavenge. I hope the settlers even have stats (probably wont be as in depth as our character) like in FO shelter. that would be cool IMO

...You're playing a game you hate?

Isn't that...like, the most counter productive approach to gaming there is?

I mean, unless you're doing a Youtube LP of it...why bother?

Speculation of course but the settlement UI shows a few things that might be related to Happiness: Food, Water, Safety, and Beds.

As stated above happiness is determined by level of food water security and having beds for everyone... as long as the place is secure and has its own water/food source like farms and water purification systems ect as well as defenses against raiders and beds for all the people there (not necessarily homes you could crowd everybody into a single building filled with nothing but beds) then you should be fine for happiness.

Anything that makes settlements and traders more lifelike is a win by me.

Surely Beth has plenty of ideas that they wanted to implement as there are so many similar mods for Fallout 3.

They'd more likely just leave anyways. I mean if they just decide to vote me out, I ain't leaving. I built the place with my own two hands.

"Sure, let's start a vote or riot against the guy in power armour and who has a minigun."

@He-Who-Remains I am a youtuber, and I don't even do lets plays of it. I both love it and hate it. But seriously I hope they fix the bugs for it.

I got the feeling that SoD is a test as to what they could do. A sequel should iron out some problems and be a bit more expansive. I don't think SoD2 is far off either. I have it on 360 & X1 and I don't think any more bug support is coming.

As for our settlements. Is it actually required? Sure, there'll probably be an achievement/trophy for size/population but is it a neccessity to complete the game?

And if my inhabitants don't like how the place is run, well, it's the long walk for them. Or they can challenge me in the fighting pits.

I still have nightmares of my people crying for "more wood" from that game Black and White.

Peeps start crying for stuff and getting all needy, and I'm dropping mini nukes all over muh own settlement. Show those ungrateful needy NPCs how bad it can get. :)

I loved the idea of State of Decay, but, playing on a PC at least, the 3rd person view alone was clunky enough to turn me off. I should go back to it though, 'cos often a break from a game gives it new life and I'll have something to do until the 10th of November.

Back to FO4 though, I don't want to micro manage my 'settlement(s)'. Set and forget is the go, I think, while I go off exploring/fighting etc. The farms/water bores I build will dictate the size, and the defences will dictate whether it gets overun (and becomes a raider SH for me to retake later >:)) or becomes a sustainable safe place earning me caps to do other things.

What I seriously hope for (and this probably deserves it's own topic) is randomly generated locations. Perhaps the vertibird can take us there (for a price: we gotta have money sinks) to explore a new vault/enclave base/raider base/mutant base/pre-war ruins/sewers/unexplored city ruins etc etc etc. These things will be "outside" the main map and make the game playable even after you've explored the sh!t outta the main map. Replaying as a different kind of character is good but still only has a finite longevity, we need radiant missions AND locations.

imo.

I was wondering this myself. Has any one noticed that one of the armor out fits in Shelter, heavy battle armor, is described as being worn by synth characters? So, we can logically expect Synth enemies to be wearing some form of this "battle armor" when we encounter them in F4. So yes I think Shelter is sort of a preview of things in F4.
