I'm on the last stage of this quest and it bugged out preventing me from completing it, or I'm missing something.
Spoiler I've placed the bearings AND defended the USS Constitution, there are no more enemies in sight. Talking to the captain, he's still talking about the damned bearings.
Is anyone else plagued by this?

I tried fast travelling away and back again to see if it would fix it. I thought it was going to!
When I returned after fast travelling I entered the door to the ship from the building. A random scavenger appeared by the door and then disappeared. I went to the top to see the captain but sadly when I pressed 'A' to talk to him, I heard the familiar buzzing/clicking sound and he said what he's been saying "this task hinges upon ... bearings" (which I verified are already placed and operational.)
I went down to the ground again and found the same scavenger guy that was in the ship. I killed him, went back to the captain, but no changes

My quest says defend the constitution. Ive killed everyone and the quest doesn't proceed. So, same bug here. Tried fast travel. Didn't work.

This helped me solve me issue.
"If you use the console on PC you can enter "setstage MS11 840" and you will get to the final turn in to complete the quest."

Yeh I had the same problem. Talk to the Captain again, even if you tried the 1st time. He'll hopefully ask you to flip a switch & that's it. Ship takes off. I didn't try riding it, but I saved a game for that point hehe.
