Fallout 4 has the worst Main Story ever?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:54 pm

I love this game but the main Story seems to be the worst ever created in this universe. Your Baby gets stolen because it's free from radioactivity. How this can be, when the shockwave from the Atom bomb was rushing over the your head when driving down on a open platform? Also why do they kill your the Partner who had the Baby or everyone other then you? The should be all free from radioacivity like you and the Baby.

Why do humans created Synths with own thoughts if they dont want to? Does someone programm something he doesn't want to have? Why so much effort to create human look alikes robots when normal robots can do the same stuff and dont act against their programms.

Why you must choose factions and can't Change their minds? I only say Paladin Danse Quest or talking with Shawn and tell him, that he is on the wrong way, like going the Synths who don't want to stay to let go, because other Synths like the Institute and their life. Shawn tells something about stealing his products? Yeah he was stolen too.......

Yeah no. I actually liked the story, despite it being poorly written at times.

And OP apparently needs to pay more attention to what is actually said in game.

All your complaints and questions were addressed in the game itself through various conversations.

The main story isn't perfect, but it's the best one Bethesda has ever created.

While I don't disagree with your last point.

Uhm, wow, yeah, totally disagree.

Not sure if it's better than Vegas but it's certainly more emotional than Vegas.

Unlike the Courier, you can actually have a personality and rivalry with Shaun.

I am more intrigued by this story than any yet. It has holes, sure. They all had holes.

I swear this site is full of real life "Comic Book Guy"'s

The short version is:

1. You weren't exposed to enough radiation to mutate you since you didn't get any Rads from the thrown up dust (it hit the other side of the Commonwealth).

2. The Institute used to also be above ground and all of the Institute personnel are mutants like any other Wastelanders.

3. Kellog killing your partner was a bad decision he got repimanded for because they wanted not only the baby but you and your spouse.

4. Synths are meant to be infiltrator units to help the Institute take over the surface. They're also organic brains with cybernetic components so they're effectively "assembled" humans. They can be mind-wiped but not programmed.

5. Third Generation Synths can do everything regular robots can do but better. The Institute considers them vast improvements on less advanced robots.

6. The Factions are all divided on the Synth issue to genocidal levels. You can persuade the Minutemen to side with any of the other three, though.

7. Shaun is just touting the party line and is an enormous hypocrite since he is designing Synth Shaun to be his son.

That's what I wrote. so how this be not the worst main Story ever created? Shaun's Radiation Background makes no sense also there are a lot others without Radiation and why should Synths clean up the floor better than a Robot or why should a Synth have a Human look for cleaning up the floor or repairing things? Synths would only make sense to Infiltrate Cities but that Story is also bad as hell.

I personally found it to be a lot more engaging than the touching story of a teenage exile searching for his scientist father who has a massive hard on to create the worlds biggest brita filter, and the two factions warring to control it.

Or the story of a mailman hunting down the varmint what shot him for dead, and the warring factions fighting over a hydro-electric plant.

Or the one about a Tribal hunting down a terraforming suitcase so his tribe don't starve, and later saving his family from Amero-nazis.

And definately more engaging than the tale of a vault dweller trying to repair a brita filter (or whatever a water chip actually does), and then being told to stop the not-orcs from killing everyone at the behest of a shoggoth.

So yes, I actually like the tale of a traumatized parent, searching to learn the fate of their son, and the conflict of whether electric men dream of electric sheep.

Theres multiple reasons the synths were created.

To blend in with society above, and act as agents for things they need done in the commonwealth.

To simulate human beings for medical experiments.

my issue isn't with the story, it's a step up from FO3/NV. My issue was with the pacing of it.

OMG! My son has been kidnapped! I must find him immedi.. oh wait, I'll just build a nice house here. Oh hey, yeah I'll hang in Diamond City for a bit. Oh Hi Paladin, can I join your crusade to wipe out synths? Oh, ok then, I'll go searching the wasteland for a mysterious synth-freeing organisation, maybe I can join those instead. You want me to help those settlers? Sure Preston! Nick's gone missing? No worries, I'll find him, I'm a better detective than he is, apparently. Oh my crops have grown, time to build a big wall around it. Hmmm.. I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

It should have been: leave the vault, find Shaun. No sidetracking. No Distractions. ONCE you find him, then you can build settlements and rebuild the minutemen and get involved in the wider conflict. I had finished half the game before I even found Nick and started looking for Shaun. Wrong wrong wrong

Not really, no.

I know you're gonna hate this but, a game needs a real sense of urgency and quite frankly, if it's meant to be feel real and immersive the entire main campaign should fail if the player deviates for too long.

I mean in a position where an NPC is held hostage, for example, the kidnapper should just blow out their brains when you're taking a month to even bother with it.

How Bethesda can set up a game with this complexity is beyond me, but they need to get there at some point.

Don't agree at all, in fact if Bethesda does it right it could completely change the players' objectives and experience. Much more than what is there now.

-In other words, certain things should only happen directly as the result of the player failing to do certain things. New 'opportunities' and interactions so to speak.

yeah. some gun-toting maniac has run off with your new born son. How long to you think a new-born would survive in radiation-soaked mutant infested wasteland? Even with a bodyguard, the clock is ticking. But heh, those farmers URGENTLY need you to fight some ghouls in the Super-Duper-Mart, that's far more urgent, right?

okay. After much deliberation (I’ve spent the better part of 24 hours dwelling on this) I have decided why, specifically, I do not like FO4’s main story. Fallout is a depressing setting. It is intended to be. Uplifted by moments of brevity (re: LIBERTY PRIME PICKS UP A BEHEMOTH) but I mean everything is terrible, yeah?

But the end of the story shouldn’t be; It should be your moment of victory. I’ve watched all of the final scenes and they’re all terrible. This Sole Survivor has lost everything. Their home. Their time. Their spouse.Their son.

And it wasn’t enough that they had to lose their son once

they lost him twice

And even if they adopt robo Shaun, that kid is a constant reminder that they never got to watch their real son grow up. to help him become a proper man instead of what it is the institute cultivated him into.

Nate and Nora’s story is a tragedy of epic proportions. They aren’t even really allowed vengeance.

There is. no. victory.

Even if you kill Shaun, you’re not really winning. and given that I did, I actually think you’re losing more.
