IdeaFeature: Tag items

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:18 am

When I heard about Fallout 4 I couldn't help myself and played NV again. hardcoe with weight for ammo etc, and trying to craft a lot of stuff.

I had the following Idea and now I want to know what the rest of the world thinks.

And maybe somebody important reads it implements it in a patch or expansion if it is found useful. (one can dream :D )

What if we had the ability to tag items with markers, maybe ones that we can name ourselves, like 'crafting' or 'vital' or 'valuable'?

And if we start looting something we can simply hit a key for "take all items with tag 'valuable' " and we know that we just took all caps, stimpacks and ammo the container/corpse had.

In the base we can simply go to the box next to our workbench and hit the key for "store all items with tag 'crafting' " and all our scrap metal, electronic components, sensors and all that stuff is stored in one keystroke.

No more searching through the whole of the "other" section in our pipboy to finally get that dead weight that we don't need right now off our shoulders.

Definitely a feature that is not exactly important, but at times it would be truly handy I think.

Well, thank you for taking the time to read this, and please feel free to leave your opinion on the matter in the thread.

There is a feature to tag items, not sure if you can "auto-loot" just tagged items though.

I believe the way it works is you tag the mod/building you want to make, and it tags all the items that could be used to build it.

Not exactly what I want, but its a great start.

I want it to ease inventory management, but not having to remember which items I am looking for helps a lot already.

The "tagging" system exists within the engine as keywords assigned to each item in the game. This system could be tapped in order to have some ui enhancements such as catagorizing loot and taking/storing specific types. I doubt this will be part of the vanilla game though so have to wait for a ui mod to do it most likely

Tagging things might require a little to much, but something needs to be done with the inventory management. Hopefully we get a firmware update on this new pip boy.

Well, it is just an idea I had and threw out in the ocean.

Maybe they already have a solution for the problem I am trying to solve with it, and if not - then it is lying around and somebody might stumble over it and make use of it.

Or have a better one/improve on it.
