Random Lag SpikesFPS Drop

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:12 pm

I'm noticing quite a bit of random lag spikes and FPS drops. Using steam's in-game FPS display, I can easily hold 60 FPS but every 2 minutes I drop to 15-20 FPS and usually stay there for an extended period of time. Makes no difference if I am indoors or outdoors, but usually it worse indoors. Is there some direct setting I can change to fix this issue? Auto-detection settings set my game at ultra but I lowered it to High and still have the same issue.

Here is my build:

Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit

AMD A8-7600 3.10GHz

8GB Corsair Vengence Pro RAM

Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB

I'll try lowering settings even more but obviously I can run the game at 60 FPS at some points on ultra so I don't know.

I have the same problem and the FPS drop happens always in the same spots (most of them indoors).

Changing settings don't change anything.

For example, in the last room of the Corvega Assembly Plant (the one where you kill Jared), if I look towards certain spots I always get 17 FPS no matter what.

Even if I change ALL the settings to the minimum and best performance options available, I still get the same 17 FPS on that area when looking towards the lights. If I crank it up to the maximum settings my PC can run I get the same result: 17 FPS. Always running full HD only.

It seems to be related to lightning or maybe to mist/fog. But changing lightning and shadows options does nothing at all to improve performance, it just make the game uglier.

Here is my system:
Core i5 2500k running on stock speed
8GB DDR3 1600 Geil Enhance Corsa
Sapphire HD6950 Flex 2GB
Windows 7 64 bits

I've already updated the video card drivers, defragged the disk and rebooted the PC and nothing changed.

This is just a shame for a Fallout game. The previous games were much better optimized. I could even run Fallout 3 on medium settings in my old Pentium 4 Northwood with my old faithful Radeon X800 XT PE. This seems to me just an awfully done port from consoles to PC.

Does anyone here have a solution to that?

If you want you can head over Options > Display > Grass Fade & Object Fade try reducing those settings. Bethesda will eventually work on ever minor and major bug and known issues. If that does not work. try messing around with some other settings in there Fallout 4 is a processor hogging machine game, so If your processor don't got the juice it could do some weird FPS drops.

This does not work, at least in my case.

Update: Running on Medium now, lowered fade options. Still having the same issue with the same FPS. Got a random crash just now on top of HUB 360 when installing MILA. Lowered to 5 FPS than crashed with no error.

There is nothing major you can do because as of now the game is still horribly un-optimized. A classic Bethesda release I guess. I have the same problem and I did some research. When the fps goes from 60 to 40 my CPU and GPU usage actually decrease instead of increase... If that doesn't speak of an un-optimized game I don't know what else will.

I guess the only thing we can do is to wait until Bethesda comes with a patch ( although I doubt that will fix it) or wait until the modders come up with a patch. Or if you're brave you can try out some different .ini settings. See if that changes anything for you.

It doesn't surprise me though the same crap happened in Skyrim with the whole "Looking down from Dragonsreach" debacle. Massive fps drops in certain areas, modders had to fix it and Beth implemented the fixes into their patches the lazy m*ther[censored]ers. :P
