MSI GT70 problem with GPU switching

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:48 am

I have MSI GT70 Dominator laptop with Intel HD4600 and GeForce GTX970 onboard. I did a clean install of new nvidia driviers (358.91).

Specs:

CPU i7-4710MQ

GPU Intel HD4600 and GeForce GTX970M

RAM 8 GB DDR3

Windows 7 64-bit

When i start Fallout 4 launcher it checks my graphics and giving infor "Video setting has ben set to Low quality". After pressing play Fallout 4 launches with Intel HD4600 and not using Geforce.

- I even tried to force using geforce in nvidia control panel, but its still not working properly (doesn't matter if medium, high or ultra quality set).

- clicker right on fallout 4 executable and set default gpu to nvidia -> still not working on it (uses HD4600).

Anyone have idea what to do?

I think I saw somewhere that guy disabled device or deleted drivers from integrated graphics card in Device Manager.

One thing to possibly try is to open your nVidia control panel, navigate to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Fallout 4 > CUDA - GPUs and verify if your 970M is enabled and not your integrated graphics. Hope this might solve it. :)

jaafo, its not working. I tried mostly everything. Changed default GPU (in nvidia control panel) to GTX970, changed default for Fallout4.exe and Fallout4Launcher.exe for GTX970 and nothing works. Installed newest drivers (must check on previous version) and still game running on intel hd4600 gpu. When i launch F4 the power button changes color to red (means it works now on GTX970) for a 2-3 seconds and then roll back to white (means its HD4600 used).

I think u can imagine what happens when game is using intel gpu? 1-2 fps.

I bought new MSI laptop especially for gaming and fallout 4 should work on ultra settings. Now it doesn't work. Im really dissapointed as a fallout fan.

Maybe it is a problem with Windows. I use Win 7 home premium but don't want to switch to 8 or 10.

No idea...

mark5917,

Ofcourse. Every game i've played was on ultra setting (if possible) and had now problems at all. Even old games switch gpu to GTX970 when launching (Fallout 3 needed to manually change setting in nvidia control panel, but at least was workng on GTX970).

I think its Fallout 4 problem (not switching GPU when there are two cards onboard - my laptop) and driver problem.

Propably there is no other way than waiting for patches adn new driver versions.

Everything looks like Fallout 4 does not detect my GTX970 card (i have no possibility to choose graphics adapter in fallout 4 launcher). Fallout 3 detects my card and use Ultra settings as default.
