Did the ending seem skimpy to you?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:28 am

I remember in the other Fallout games, that the ending was multi layered depending on what you did with each faction. You got a little story as to what happened next with all the factions that you took part in. Just finished the Institute ending and basically it was 2 minutes of commentary about Shaun and that was it. Where's the story of what happened next with the Brotherhood, or the Railroad, or the Minutemen. How did things go for Diamond City?

So far this is the only thing concerning Fallout 4 that has made me kinda feel cheated. I think they need to do some expanding, like what was done with the endings of Mass Effect 3. I want to know what happens next!

Such is the cost of having an open end.

Yeah, but should the end be open? A lot of other games have a full conclusion and then you can just go and continue to play afterwards. I figured this game should be one of them.

Go ahead and you tube the endings to Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4. Yeah, this...

What kinda surprises me is that more people have not complained about this. I am sure I'm not the only one to finish the game so far. And I hardly rushed through it. I think I racked up around 40 to 50 hours on just my first play through. Thankfully with work being lighter at the end of the year, Fallout 4 has filled the time gap quite nicely.

If the ending wasn't open you wouldn't be able to play after the story is done.

The ending is crappy, hopefully we get a better one with an update, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

They do a slightly better job resolving the ending with the Railroad ending, since you get new, though repeatable, quests afterwards as well as extra dialogue with Railroad members. The Institute felt lackluster to me because Father/Shaun is the only really interesting person in the Institute. You do talk to Allie afterwards but she doesn't say anything really meaningful. You can talk to synth Shaun for some stuff that you can find out for yourself, but I believe that's achievable through every ending. Basically, I think it felt so unsatisfying because the Institute didn't really make much of a big deal about what you just did. But the Railroad was amazed at what they were able to do and had more reactions.

The lack of ending slides is definately a dissappointment, though I understand why they did it ( It's pretty much incompatible with an open ending).

They do a better job than Skyrim portraying the effects of the main quest- in my ending, there was the conflict with McDonough, The Minutemen occupied Diamond City, and all of the settlers and residents and guards sang my praises instead of giving me crap.

Still, I hope we get ending slides in one of the DLC's, probably the last. That way they could be all-inclusive, describing the effects of our choices in both the base game and the DLCs.

Yeah, well, the rest of the rest of story was too. But we all knew that well before the game was even released.

Well, at lest us veterans did :hehe:

The Institute ending was pretty weak. The Brotherhood was ok. Haven't seen the rest.

I like how pretty much all of the important characters and companions stick around after the ending (provided you didn't kill them) that's a huge improvement compared the Witcher 3.
