There was a Moon Battle?!

Hadn't known that about Helium-3.

Also isn't there a noted divergence in US history that happens around 1945 in the Fallout universe? Says so on the wiki anyway. So I don't think the Cold War matters much here.

from what i gather, the divergence in the timeline is mostly jsut the fact that in the real world, we developed microprocessors and stuff, making electronics much smaller and portable. In the FO timeline, more emphasis was on harnessing power and energy (hence fission batteries, fusion reactors in cars and motor bikes etc). Thats why all the electronics and stuff look old, clunky, and big. Because they have no way of making thier tech smaller, Just more powerful instead. But i could be wrong

For the He3.
I would think with all of the fusion reactors (presumably some ran on Hydrogen), Helium would be a byproduct.
But I could be wrong.

Well, there's also the fact that the Apollo missions weren't done, and rather it was the 'Valiant 11' of the United States Space Agency that landed on the moon first. It was also http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Carl_Bellwho was the first man in space in 1961. Differences, but not huge ones, I know.

But then we find out that it was 2020 when the last rocket to go to the moon was commissioned by the U.S. government: the Delta IX. So presumably, in the Fallout timeline, humanity kept going to the moon until 2020 at the earliest, rather than scrapping the lunar program in 1972.

Particularly this snipet:

"The appeal of helium-3 fusion stems from the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aneutronic_fusion nature of its reaction products. Helium-3 itself is non-radioactive. The lone high-energy by-product, the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton, can be contained using electric and magnetic fields. The momentum energy of this proton (created in the fusion process) will interact with the containing electromagnetic field, resulting in direct net electricity generation."

No, no, no, nooooooo

No more stupid aliens and space stuff, it was badly done in Zeta and I have little faith of it being good if they tried it in FO4. Just because they expanded lore a bit to include a space battle shouldn't mean there should be a dlc or anything alongside it.

As for the moon itself, I can buy that there were skirmishes over who can own what thanks to the Helium-3 which is suppose to be a super fuel. Maybe even small colonies being built on the surface of the moon or it could be US propaganda used to claim that America has ownership on the moon and it will protect it's interest.

I love this idea of battles waged on the moon.

I just took a good look at the picture again and it looks like there are two starfighters soaring above the astronaut and a rocket taking off behind the lander. The rocket could just be a blended picture of them taking off to the moon but who knows. Those are defiantly starfighters though.

Also the astronaut has some sort of blaster looks like a flamer nozzle but its gatta be some future tech.

You do realize us Americans havea pretty poor educational system right? This is a byproduct of that without a question.

More than likely its on the mural because The U.S. is number one! They made it to the moon first and have never lost a war. Take that communism!

Although in truth its possible multiple Americans died going to the moon, there's probably a situation similar to Apollo 13 where the crew landed on the moon but didn't make it back or probably incidents similar to the challenger disaster.

Not sure if it was mentioned already but, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bloomfield_Space_Center and it's lore was supposed to be in VB. Maybe Bethesda is using some of the VB material that never came to be...

Reading over that again now, "Victor Presper went into hibernation a few days before the nuclear holocaust, woke up in the Boulder Dome, and emerged hundreds of years later, into the world to discover (to his surprise) how much "civilization" survived, before he wakes up the rest of the scientists frozen beneath the Boulder Dome"

Sounds a little familiar...

Well, there are not any aliens in the picture, so it could be played off as another kind of issue. However, chances are it's a battle with the Chinese

Not to mention that it's not actually the Apollo lander in the background, it looks like one of the Virgo Landers that were seen in Fallout 3.
