Changing the name of your kid in game?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:27 pm

Has anyone heard anything on changing the name of your child in game? I hate that he's named Shaun haha. My name is Sean, I could see having a virtual Sean Jr.....but why the hell would I name my child Shaun, when my name is Sean....vastly superior spelling haha.

Not really that big of a deal for me, still gonna play the absolute [censored] out of this game either way....it would just be a little weird haha

I doubt you can change it. His name is actually voiced, so unless they pulled a Codsworth, I think it's set.

I hope there's a mod to change the spelling to "Sean"--though I suspect that they chose the ugly "Shaun" spelling because Shaun can be a girl's name, supporting the theory that if the player character is female then Shaun is a girl instead of a boy.

It would only take a few hours to record the 1000 names for both voice actors. I agree that they probably aren't going to let you select the name, but it's possible that the baby's name is randomly generated.

The issue is that he might end up surviving. If that's the case, then you might end up having twenty voice actors needing to produce an extra 1000 lines of dialogue, then making sure it sounds natural.

I'd rename it to "PlxDieInYourCribAndHaveZeroRelevanceToTheRestOfTheGame". As for your spouse, same thing. Something like "NuclearBlastToTheFacePlzBeGoneAndBeForgotten".

Might sound really negative. But we already had a family based plot in FO3. So I hope the devs do not lack imagination to such a degree that they go "Hey! Lets make a family based plotline again". If it wasnt used in FO3 it would be fine, but I detest the thought of having to go for another "Save your family" plot.

I think Shaun is going to survive and be a set character, so you'll have to hear his name a lot.

To me it just seems kind of silly to use a fairly popular name, which in turn has several different spellings. Can spell it Sean, Seann, Shaun, Shawn, and Ive even met a dude that spells it Shauwn. I would have thought Beth would have taken a name that didn't have so many different variables. It may seem like I am making a big deal of it but, just thinking aloud I guess haha

I can imagine quite a bit of the Sean/Seann/Shawn...../Shauwn crowds being bugged by this bit of immersion breaking. For most people this is probably the most trivial thread.....but to some people, immersion can make or break the game for them.

Me personally....I'll just turn subtitles off I guess :P

I feel like this is a Sean-only issue rather than a general issue :D

I think I'd be annoyed if our baby was named "Alisha" rather than "Alicia" but I don't have any vested interest in the spelling of the various Sean/Shaun/Shawn variations.

Sean, Shawn and Shaun. Actually the game version of the spelling is the first time I've seen it.
