Demo's and Trailers...

Post » Mon May 31, 2010 9:01 am

Hey guys. I am currently making a mod that adds many new places to the wasteland, all linked together by a questline. But I am wondering two things.

One, would you guys like to see demo's for mods like this? I have a rather good spot I could break off and make a demo out of the first small chunk of the mod. Would you guys like one? Or would it be a waste of time and stupid?

Two, do you guys like mods with trailers/teasers? Again I can make one, I have the technology/ability to make one pretty well. But would you guys out there who play mods enjoy them? Or should I spend my time on other things/aspects of the mod.

Let me know how you guys would like/dislike these things. I personally would love a demo and many trailers for more mods! But thats me. What do you guys want?

I would rather the mod-maker spend their time on making the mod than on some trailer.

Yea... I don't think I will do a demo, as it looks nobody would like that. Which I get. As for the trailer, I will make one if I can make it quickly, conviniently, and still make it well.

A trailer for a mod clearly indicates that the mod has seriously been worked on. However, if the mod is not "worth" the trailer, people will be pissed.

I don't really care about demos, when I install mods I want to install finished ones, I don't really care about trying out some sort unfinished version before the official full release myself.

A trailer can be a nice way to give a quick overview of the mod in an entertaining way to gather interest. But it depends on the size of the mod. For a quest mod that lasts 30 minutes I wouldn't bother, but the larger ones can definitely benefit.

Alright. I won't do a demo. That was more of just an idea anyway, and nobody really seems to think it would work. As for the trailer, I will definitly plan to make one. My mod should add hopefully like 2-4 hrs of gameplay, depending on how quickly you figure things out. I also am trying to make the levels really high detail. For the trailer, one of them (I wanted to make a really cinematic one, with a narrarator and all, then a more music over footage of it kinda one) I was going to do the cliche Fallout thing. It starts showing a radio which flickers on, playing some old 50s music, then slowly zooms out to show some horrible stuff (i.e. bodies, blood, wreckage, the works) then eventually zooms past a soldier who looks at the camera, and the music is like Dun Dun DAAA!!! Then shows pictures, and has a narrorator saying the basic story. Pretty much like the NV trailer, and Fo3 intro. So I guess I will make one of those for it in the future. Thanks for the input guys, its helped me pick what to do aside from purely the mod.

Definitely not a demo as has been said, and I wouldn't mind a trailer, as long as it doesn't distract from work on the actual mod, I would rather you finish it sooner and me not see a trailer for it :P

Yea I would definitly focus on the mod, the trailer that I plan (the FO3 intro style one) however would take alot of scripting, but I could just spend 2 days working none stop and probably get 'er done. The rest, spent on this mod. I just hope people like it, because too few mods exist that add new cells to explore, with storylines. Plus my storyline is sad, immersive, and really well written (or so those who have tested, and my friends say) so it should be good.

Ok, based on the poll right now (16 votes) it appears everyone hates the idea of a demo. So I am completly dropping that. But a majority of you want a trailer, so I shall make one in the future for it. For the next few weeks look for [Trailer] threads about Gene-Tec. I think you guys will like it. All my friends they all love it. It may be longer than that however, it kind of depends on some things. I hope to be completly done with my mod, and have it 100% released within like 2 months. But I'm unsure if I can reach that goal or not. Also, would you guys like a thread sometime with just the storyline on it? Maybe some screen shots? Sort of like what WillieSea did for Vault 64.
