Will there be real multi-monitor support?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 6:03 am

Past Bethesda games have atrocious (read: broken) multi-monitor functionality. Even if most of it works there always tends to be some bits that just don't.

In Fallout 3, any terminals had unreadable text and the pipboy menu was the same way. Other minigames were offscreen.

In Skyrim, books were impossible to read through and the skill-point allocation screen was broken.

One of my favorite things about Elder Scrolls Online is that it works flawlessly with three-wide monitors and I give major props to Zenimax for making sure to properly support the multi-monitor segment of gamers.

Can we expect fallout 4 to actually work properly with multiple monitors?

No....I....I..what? So you want all screens to mimic one to get a bigger picture? Just hook your pc to a tv .....

I believe what OP is asking about is the same feature that many games now offer with multi-monitor.

NOT just a 'bigger picture', but a more 'panoramic' picture. In other words, increasing the field of view from (hypothetically) 45 degree 'normal' to 100'ish degrees triple monitor.

I've not tried them, but I've heard some games try to mimic normal human sight - that being, we see the clearest and focus on only a narrow cone directly in front of us (say 60 degrees), but our peripheral vision encompasses almost 180 degree field of vision. Just that the 60 degrees (or so) to either side is not very clear or focused. We see movement and colors, etc - but not detail.

That'd be cool, too. Or, as many wanna 'cheat' and see all 180 degrees as clearly and sharply as center..... Meh, that'd work, too. If you don't like that option, then don't use it. *grin*

I have three 1080p monitors side-by-side. Which results in a picture that is still only 1080 pixels tall but 5760 pixels wide. Many games support this to some extent, basically you have a wide field of view, not just a bigger screen. Unfortunately, even Bethesda's most recent titles like Fallout 3 and Skyrim are all broken in a "three wide" configuration since many of the UI elements are scaled based on the width of your resolution. It is not difficult to make sure all the UI elements scale properly in wide displays, however Bethesda always neglects to do so.

Does not solve the FOV issue unless you sit close to an large curved tv.

I'm here talking about real FOV not the setting on the rendering camera. your eyes see more than 150 degree, an 27" pc monitor give you around 60 degree.

If interfaces like stat or inventory scale to height with fixed aspect ratio it should be no problem.

Oh..ok.. I dont know if bethesda or any other game company i know about pays much attaintion to a feature like that. It doesnt sound like it would affect them much? But op you can try getting a hold on a bethesda technician and asking him that because so far we know almost nothing about the game.

Hhhmmm.... Given some of the magic modders have accomplished, I should think that if the game doesn't properly support it, a mod shouldn't be too much of a stretch to accomplish it. Now, is there someone out there that will actually deal with it? I don't know....

Monitor support is more of a game engine thing than a mod issue. Looking it up, it seems like getting FO:NV to do it properly required a bunch of .ini tweaking & playing with the graphics card control programs.

If the main issue is illegible menus, etc, THAT is easily addressed by mods. Just provide menu's with the correct dimensions...... Center them on the center screen.

Ah, true. That is an issue that mods can help with. :)

UI modding is no easy matter, especially when text scaling is the issue.
