Please show more than just selected weapon on character! :)

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:00 am

Fallout characters need to look better armed! After all, they pack a lot of guns (and knives)! If I equip a knife to save ammo, I still want to see a gun by the side, and rifle at the back (If I have them).

Just to be clearer: OF COURSE NOT ALL WEAPON IN THE ENTIRE INVENTORY!! (Just one of each type, or of your own selection)

There was a simple little mod for Skyrim that made all weapons with an assigned quick button visible on character body (that way it didn't get too cramped). It would be great to have something similar for Fallout. It is past time

Problem is making every combination of weapons worn work with every piece of clothing/armor without ugly clipping, plus this close to launch I doubt Beth plans to add anything, so if we haven't seen it, its not in and wont come in before launch.

This you also carries lots of weapons/ armor you don't use but is for sale or spare parts.

Having multiple weapon slots would make sense, one weapon on shoulder and one at each hip is plausible.

Well, that was a problem with "The armed to the teeth" mod, which basically let you stack an indefinite number of weapons on your body by making "ghost" copies (complicated as hell). Then clipping and whatnot was inevitable. The other mod, which I unfortunately don't remember the name of, was much simpler... It didn't show every weapon in you inventory, and it didn't change any default positions. It merely made those few weapon you've assigned a quick slot visible on your body. It is not a big deal to implement at all, so either way, we'll get a mod for it eventually, but would be nice to have it from the start. The only thing they would have to prevent would be to prevent two weapons of the same type showing up on the same slot. That's not very complicated either... For instance, if you have more than on rifle assigned, you can basically ask the game to initially show the first one assigned, and later the last one equipped.

Nothing is easy in game development, ever and yeah I assume beth right now wanna focus on fine tuning and bug test the features they already planed.

You know nothin...

I'm not demanding a totally new thing that would require a complete redesign of the entire architecture. I'm asking/suggesting for a simple tweak of what they already have, and have had in all their games for a long time (proof of concept already exist in at least Skyrim). I would basically characterize it as some sort of after-polish if they want it. Of course Bethesda will do what they think best and have time for. You think I don't know that?! But, they have this forum for a reason no? I imagine they sometimes reads them and appreciate feedback/suggestion?

what you are asking is never going to happen

first off, this game is already basically done, nothing anyone on this forums asks to be added is going to happen, unless it is already in teh game in the first place.

secondly, what you are asking is a nightmare of coding, even the SIMPLEST form of that mod takes a lot of scripting power, scripting power, that first off, consoles and/or lower end PC's might not have.

I may be mistaken, but I believe (at least the first) armed to the teeth mod didn't actually add anything to the game. It was just instructions on how to enable what was already in the game, an ini edit. It was a little buggy between switching weapons, which was why it wasn't enabled by default.

I'd love it if you had to make "holsters" and pouches for quick access to items. I always though it odd how much stuff I could hold without a backpack. Then after I modded a backpack into the game, I found it odd that I could find the right clip of ammo, stim pack, etc, amid all the stuff I was carrying, while in the middle of combat with out losing a second! :P ... I started to mod this framework in Skyrim using bandolier items but never found time to finish it :(

this game is feature complete todd has already confirmed it in interviews really only thing they are trying to do now is kill as many BUGS in game as possible and get the game ready for mass production and the worldwide release

feedback is always welcome however i wouldn't bet on it happening. 121 days is not alot of time.

@remmus: Feedback for FO5 in FO4 section?! I don't think so... There is 4 months left.

But I'm done talking with you, but thanks for your input I guess... I sense long queue of insults lining up were we to continue this conversation together. Better to just agree to disagree.

no one is trying to insult you, we are pointing out that with only 4 months left, it is NEVER going to happen, especially because Todd Howard has already stated the game is pretty much done.

It is simply a matter of time investment.

Since almost every "new" feature we have seen thus far has been ripped directly from a FO3/NV mod i would not be surprised if this feature was in the game

You will have better luck trying to mod this in yourself, or request it as a mod once the GECK is released. You said yourself that the feature in the mods was a bit buggy. It's the sort of thing that always will be in a game like this with so much player freedom. If we had limited weapon slots like some games, this would be easier, but what about the guy who only carries rifles? Or the guy who uses his quickslots for stims and chems?

Buggy behaviour is accepted much more readily in a mod than as a built-in feature. I don't see this as something they can polish well, or else they would have already done it. If it doesn't work perfectly in all cases, people will be confused, call them lazy, spout off about how they svck at developing, etc. The inventory system is not at all realistic to begin with, so I don't see it as a priority to go for realism in this one aspect (like you mentioned, you'll still be pulling ammo out of your magic invisible bag every time you reload).

....eh. This would make me not want to assign many weapons to quickslots.

(My current FO3 character has, hmm..... 1: knife, 2: silenced pistol, 3: scoped hunting rifle, 4: assault rifle, 5: shotgun, 6: silenced sniper rifle. Yeah, that would be a mess and make the character look like a walking junkpile. No thanks )

I remember for Skyrim there was some sort of ini tweek that would show all of your weapons that you had favorited. One for each slot, of course. It actually worked quite well, but the only caveat is that you had to unequip your current weapon before equipping another. If you didn't, the weapon you had equipped before would stay in your hand and look extremely goofy. I didn't mind though, because the realism of having all of your weapons visible on the character was fantastic, looked badass, and having to put away your weapons before getting out other weapons added a level of difficulty and realism that was not difficult to get used to. At the very least, I hope the same ini tweak can be done in Fallout 4.

I would guess that considering it is still the same engine it will be possible to do the same.

I know in Skyrim, there was a mod called Equipping Overhaul that allowed the character to carry dual sheathed weapons on back, plus a shield or bow, and dagger at the waist or small of back, and, the animations were fairly decent for it too.

As I recall, the mod was customizable too, so, you could set if one-handed weapons were in scabbard at sides or on back.

If it's not in the Vanilla, it'll likely be available in a mod quite soon after the creation kit is released.
