Someone please help me resolve this issue : Fallout 4

I waited all these years for Fallout. I bought a new pc just becaus of it. I was in such a hype when it was announced. This morning i finally got the package, and it has been downloading the whole day. Now it finally finished, i started it up with tears of joy in my eyes (might seem extreme, but seriously) and boom, Fallout 4 has stopped working.

All this time i didnt realise i was on a 32-bit system. Isnt there anything i can do? Please, someone help. I dont want to go looking for a different OS, install it, then all the drivers, then wait another day of Fallout to download... Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can't run it mate. 64bit OS or nothing I'm afraid.

Clean install a 64bit windows and you should be sorted.

Also tell them, that's unaceptable, as the 99% of the builds comes now with an 64Bit OS.

Don't get crazy and buy a new OS. !!!

Guys, i managed to secure a friend with 64-bit, but if i take the game files, back them up, reinstall, then move them back... oh you know what i mean, i dont want to download it all over again, can it be done? And if yes, how exactly, do i just replicate the folder?

By the way i ordered the parts and built the pc myself, the 32-bit Win 7 i already had, and it didnt occur to me that ill need 64-bit. :c

However, can i reinstall the OS with backing up the game files so that i wont have to re-dl it? I mean, will Steam be okay with it?

There is no straight upgrade path from 32 to 64-bit that will allow you to keep things the way they were.

32bit to 64bit is a full reinstall. So, save all of your data on a USB HDD, and perform a clean install.

Sorry, there is no way around it... :shrug:

As for the game:

Copy the whole steamapps folder within the steam to a backup drive. When you have your new OS installed install a fresh copy of steam.

Copy then the steamapps folder you previously backed up into the newly install steam directory.

Start steam, and most probably your game should work as before with all saves. But i can't promise anything...

Yeah... anyway thanks for your help, thats what i meant with the steamapps folder, so im glad that what i had in mind SHOULD work. Fallout is all i have installed and since i cant even run it, i dont have to be worried about any saves. Thanks again pal.

So, reinstalled Windows to the 64-bit version, got the latest driver Nvidia offers through Geforce Experience, everything up to date, my pc is above the minimum requirements threshold, still it crashes. Im getting really desperate, i spent a ton of money on this and now it doesnt work. If this doesnt get resolved, Bethesda loses a die hard fan. :c

By the way, what if i did a rollback on the gpu driver? Maybe Geforce Experience forced some driver that is 'too new' on me, how about updating through devices? Bad idea?

The new driver has caused issues for some people. Do a clean uninstall of your Nvidia stuff completely, then install the previous release driver and give it a go.

Just wanted to say, in case anyone had the same problem, that i just had to uninstal Nvidia drivers and install the ones i got with my new graphics card, thats version 344-something instead of the newest one, 358 i think. Since then everything works like a charm, i play on ultra settings with 60fps almost all the time So if anyone is experiencing this, driver rollback might be the solution.
