Of course it makes no sense if I were not referring to the poll. The poll is very flawed. From a design standpoint a container is obviously created to hold things. It is just another object of the game world. I will grant you that modders and Bethesda have very good containers with interaction animations ect.
Mass Effect also has containers. They are completely [censored] naturally but they are simply a "menu" container. Why? It isn't for user convenience. It is a cheap budgetary technique and nothing more. Shep cannot drop the gun. Shep cannot biotically pick up said gun and hurl it at someone useless though the endeavor may be. Many developers follow this tactic because it is the path of least resistance and the consumer allows it. That is fine. I can say my piece arguing otherwise.
I have already covered the technical limitations and other areas that make containers necessary. My viewpoint is that they are a mere convenience and nothing more. The poll draws attention into it's simple choices that could infer grave consequences if it were to be followed to the letter. A strict menu based system is complete garbage. An "open world loot system" allows much more flexibility and is not technically impossible to a degree. Bethesda has proven that time and again. So I say again No to a "both" option (it doesn't exist) and a very big HELL NO to a strictly menu based system.
