Adding armor to inanimate objects in NifSkope

Post » Mon May 31, 2010 4:42 pm

I'm trying to add a bandana to a teddy bear in nifskope using copy/paste branch (I've already done it with other inanimate objects with no problem). When I try do a straight copy/paste it won't let me, it tells me "Failed to map Parent Link NiNode|Scene Root"

When I delete the sub-branch BSDismemberSkinInstance it lets me copy and paste it into the other file and mess with it, but when I save the file and load it in the GECK viewer, both the bandana and the teddy are invisible, while other objects I've added still show up.

I assume this has something to do with the bandana being placed on an actor instead of being an inanimate object, but I don't know what to do about it.

The root nodes are different types and are named differently, is the like reason for that error message.

Maybe sort of. it all depends which mesh object you are pasting into which nif. The thing to note would be that the teddy bear is rigged and has a little ragdoll skeleton in the nif, it will also have the shader sf_shadow_map enabled. if you paste the bandana into that, you will probably want it rigged too, and enable the sf_shadow_map shader set up as well.

If you kill the skinning on the teddy, and paste that mesh object into the bandana nif you will want to disable sf_shadow_map shader.

Hmm, could you explain how to do that? Or link me to some directions? Sorry I'm kind of a noob I just started modding this weekend lol.

Here's the model currently without the bandana.

Here's what happens when I delete the branch to add the bandana, then open it up in the geck viewer.

And here's what happens when I rename, replace, or delete the parent directory to add the bandana, then open it in the geck viewer.
