Bethesda, a new key for grenade please.

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:11 am

Hi everyone,

could Bethesda assign a new key entry for grenade please? It is unusable as we speak. Want to power attack ...that throws a grenade ... click the key too fast while wanting to hold breath with a riffle ... throw a grenade. Grenade are so confusing with that global key that I do not use them.

And I WOULD LOVE TO USE THEM :)

Please just do a simple fix, let us assign a key for grenade.

Everyone will be happy about it :)

This is mostly one of the only major complaint I have so far.

Fallout 4 Rocks in my book.

Not sure about the hold breath... that's the sneak key, whatever you assigned it to.

For grenade/power attack/gun bash, it's ok as is but there's a trick. Grenade use requires pressing and holding the key until you hear an audible "click". The click tells you the grenade is cocked and ready/live.

I think the point is, there shouldn't have to be a "trick" here. Melee and Grenade should have independant key mapping.

There is no trick. Hold for grenade, tap for melee. Two different actions. If you're accidentally throwing a grenade instead of doing a gun bash, then you're "tapping" for like 2 seconds too long.

Just an unfortunate side-effect of this being a console port. A number of actions have had to be consolidated into single buttons because there's too many actions and not enough buttons on a console controller. When the game got ported to the pc, these console features stayed intact.

Hopefully, a patch will come with proper PC support. Hopefully.

In the heat of battle ...single click ... too long click ...having a grenade set or not. All of this becomes confusing. We just need a new key set. That's it. We should not have to think about the way we will click the key.

Please just add a grenade key. Problem solved.

Honestly I don't see them implementing this at all, however a hotkey Mod will be one of the first available as soon as we can hook into the game with FOSE.

- Holster weapon

- construction mode

We have a keyboard, not a damn gamepad..

I've offed myself a couple times already in hand-to-hand combat by trying to use the bayonet and lobbing a grenade instead. Very annoying.

I find it strange that Bethesda even did it like this.

How does one even use VATS for throwing grenades? Is that even possible?

I find it strange that NONE of you can reliably differentiate between holding a button and pressing it once. To the point that you want to remap holster, pipboy light, AND grenade? How about you just don't hold down keys? Good god.

The point you fail to realize is that the game's input capture is locked to the framerate, so if you tap multiple times in short succession it may well register as a holddown. This is not an issue if framerates are consistently high, but in the choppy world of Fallout 4 they are not, even with spectacular hardware.

There are also huge muscle memory issues for those of us who have played any other combat-oriented videogame in the world, all of which have the "throw grenade" key separate from the melee attack or gun bashing one. In those games (literally any other game), holding down the attack button will do a power attack. That's how Bethesda did it in Skyrim, and it worked fine, but then they defecated in the bed and came up with this slope-foreheaded idea for Fallout 4.

But wait, it gets even more ridiculous! You know the last level of the Nuclear Physicist perk, that lets you eject a Fusion Core from your Power Armor as a grenade? It uses the same key. That means, with this perk you can no longer throw grenades while wearing Power Armor.

Unbelievable.
