The Boston Irish influence in Fallout 4

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:25 am

Thought I'd create a discussion for any fellow Irish fallout fans. So anyone who knows basic American history knows Boston historically has had a significantly large Irish population and cultural influence over the centuries. Especially prevalent in the 1950's era which Fallout is based. So what do you expect? Irish mobs? A ghoul companion from the pre-war who's Irish? etc etc.

and please only comment serious replies. No stupid stereotypical comments, regarding alcohol, potatoes, whatever. You will just be embarrassing yourself and making others who aren't morons cringe. So if you are familiar with actual Irish culture and history even something like famous poems etc comment what Irishy thing you'd personally like to see referenced or shown :)

According to the Washington post 20.4 percent of boston was Irish in 2013.

So ya, I support "the wearing of the green."

(in hindsight I figure I better just say as no ones a mind reader, that is an irish ballad)

Maybe we will run into some of Collin Moriarity's clan. Be funny if they were completely opposite of Collin.

It would be quite nice to see 'Céad Míle Fáilte' displayed above the odd friendly clan location, possibly even connected to Moriarty as per above post. And something alcohol related but in a serious way, I would imagine we would see a shift in influence/branding similar to the redesigned Nuka-Cola bottles, possibly even a nod to some of the larger Boston breweries.

Dang it Gk i was sure you would add a bit of the players stock names theory of yours here.

In real life mine full name means close enough to dark drunk female warrior (good heavens 2/3rds of it being gaelic)

Wow, sounds like a good name for a TES character, but I digress... :D

I didn't mention the PC family names because part of it is still only speculation at this stage. But if we take it as being at least 'highly likely', the names Jack, Nora, and Shaun all have a very clear Irish influence.

I hope they make a parody of vault 108 where everyone sounds like Liam Neeson.

That sounds like it would actually be an awesome place to explore in-game. Something very Skyrim, but in Fallout.

Well asides from music, architecture and shamrocks uhh. (hehe)

Depending on how they play it (hopefully the whole revolutionary war is just a bit part).

Might be we see Irish Brigade flags (this is well a tad later Civil war on up but good read and kinda shows our (Us) history military segregation of an uncommon sort, till we did away with it. They were mostly New yorkers of old, but lots of lads from Mass. and boston joined.

Course like all things theres a bit o bad they could show... Molly Maguires (also a good read in general) as well as labor union history pinkertons in general, and strike busters.

And of course since prohibition did a number on the states, Boot legging, Irish gang history (st. valentines day massacre for instance) and uhh cough (the Kennedy family) cough might be worth reads. (I do not know if the Kennedys are in Fallout or how it went down in fallout i just remember finding a Nixon doll in fallout 2 so a lore hound will need to jump in).

All that said I hope they dont go overboard, Cause lets face it I love the whole Melting pot Ideal, And every ethnicity has given us great stuff. (well cept the Swedish... Lutfisk really come on its just so wrong :prod: ). Joke its a joke ducks

The time line might be a problem, or they may not actually be from Boston But a Suit of reillys rangers armor would be the only nod id need to make me happy. Or if the first female ghoul glowing one you encounter someone shouts Bean- Sidhe.

Lol I was talking about opposite in manner, i.e. not complete sleaze balls! You would think they would find some actual voice actors from Ireland, wouldn't you?
