Fallout 2 Help?

Post » Tue Jun 01, 2010 11:14 am

I know Bethesda didint make fallout 2 but i figured a lot of ppl here have played it so maybe you could help me with some stuff, i played F03 first and thought it was awesome and always heard people covet the first two fallout's so i got an account on gog.com and dled fallout 2.

I can handle the change to turn based fighting and the lowered graphics but i have trouble like figuring out what to do, finding quests, figuring how where the heck there is to go and where your supposed to go. some of it i guess has to do with my unfamiliar with the setup of the game and map and all that stuff, i got to that city klamath i think or w.e and i have no idea what to do, except for like 2 things it lists in my quests page but i have no idea where to go or anything.

Any one have any helpful things for me?

thanks

Talk all the local people in Klamath. Get some quests from them. Vic the Trader you need to find is from Klamath, but he's not in town - if you talk to people, you'll learn where you have to go to find him.

Yeah, just take your time in the game. Klamath is a good place to sort of get the hang of the game - talk to everyone in town, see what you can do there to earn money and XP, etc. There are no "wrong" choices to make in the game, but you have to keep in mind that you'll have to live with the consequences of your actions. If you go into a town and start killing people, they're not going to just forget about it later on (at least as far as I can remember...) Also remember to keep your weapons holstered when you're in a town - guards don't like you walking around with your weapons out.

Quick-save is your friend. Save often. Get into the habit of just doing it before and after anything happens.

Keep multiple save files, as well. At the very least, make a new save every time you exit the game. What I do is start at the top and just work my way to bottom each time I save, overwriting the oldest file once they fill up. That'll save you a lot of backtracking in case something messes up.

Talk to everyone, look at everything. The original Fallouts were meant to be a computer rpg that wanted to be a pen and paper rpg. This means you get very little hand holding and a lot of in over your head situations. Some people find it too hard, I find it rewarding.

If you haven't already go back to your village and talk to everyone, most coversations will be generic but there are a number of quests there.

There are also a lot of quests that you have no way of solving until much later in the game. You may get the quest to find an item, thats located on the other side of the map, that you can only get a reward for finding another item, that is also a reward from a quest in yet another town. There is also a lot of back tracking, you may think you're done with every quest in a town then someone 2-3 towns over opens a quest line that requires you to go back to someone you already talked to and thought was useless.

The most important thing is not to rush through it. There is a lot to do everywhere and a lot to miss even if youv'e been playing for a while.

I just wanted to tell you how much I loved that game. It is great fun, and one reason I find Fallout 3 lacking a little.
FO2 has a much greater breadth of character.

As the previous posters say, talk to everyone, everywhere. As you do, green circles on your world map will appear. They are cities whos names will be revealed once you arrive in them the first time.

As I recall, just to get you started if you don't know where to go. In Arroyo, you need to kill some plants, rescue a dog, and maybe do a little hunting.
If your clever, you can get a specially tipped spear before you leave.

All those things complete, and you should have a fair idea of how the game works and what you should be doing.
