Will we be able to explore and collect items pre-nukes?

Clicking on things seems to get you a description rather than picking things up in the pre-war section that and you don't have a pipboy at that point making it unlikely that you can collect pre-war items.

You couldn't store anything in New Vegas from when you first woke up to when Mitchell gave you the pipboy. I imagine it'll be the same here.

Evidence and insinuation given, quests are probably a no go because there's no way to check your status...Unless they fudge it and bring up notepad like a shopping list to track objectives...Like how they turned your Pipboy in a watch in the Tranquility Lane story.

Though I'm all for rubbing elbows with the neighbors for cheesy pre-war talk.

Short answer: no.

At most, we will be able to look around the inside of our house but not pick anything up before the bombs drop.

Edit: But having said that... mods will change that.

Even without the chance to collect items, I think (like other people have said) the exploration alone in the pre-war area would be enough for me to feel connected to it. Perhaps there are items you can hide in a secret safe in the house, to recollect them dusty and falling apart, 200 years later. I can feel the nostalgia right now.

Then again, remember you could get the Medical Bobblehead in Vault 101 long before you left for the wasteland. Also, if not used, the issue of Grognak the Barbarian is available.

It was me. Sorry. I know a guy in DC that will give me 100 caps per box. Couldn't pass it up. If it's any consolation I had to drop a Salisbury steak to make room. I'm sure you could eat that instead.

Or maybe something along the lines of hiding the neaghbor's shed key, so it doesn't get raided.
