I can see my house from here!

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:03 pm

This may have been discussed already, so, if so, I apologize.

Anyway, in reviewing the available videos, I think I've identified our pre-war house from the Vault 111 over-look of the neighborhood, as well as the escape path followed to get to the vault.

Here's the view from the vault, overlooking the neighborhood with our house pointed out and escape path.

Note the 2-story house across the street from it, as well as the house next to that, at the bend of the escape path with the collapsed roof.

Now, closer, as you come back to the neighborhood after exiting the vault ...

The white arrows point to the house with collapsed roof noted earlier. The orange arrow is the 2-storied house across street from our house. The Yellow arrow points out Cogsworth and our house.

Here's the pre-war view of the house across the street

Judging from the E3 video ... https://youtu.be/1t_YHgo_HN4

Once the sirens happen, you exit your house with your spouse and child, jog briefly West, turn North to the forest path with the creek, and circle back around up hill to the Vault 111 location.

There's more, like, during the settlement building section, where an NPC is working on a garden, the white observation pod for the Vault 111 entrance can be seen up on an overlooking hill.

EDIT: With the neighborhood just North of Concord, as well as a bridge over some water exiting the neighborhood to the South, between the neighborhood and Concord, I suspect the Vault 111 location is in Minute Man National Park area, or somewhere close by in the wooded areas.

I can't find a group of Houses on the real life map that really match the game neighborhood.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

It would make sense to immediately force you to see the stark difference between the pre-war and the post-war. Your house is 200 feet from the Vault, so not much is seen except the sight of the colorful city in the distance on the hill. You exit the vault, after who knows what, and immediately see your torn down house. The feels are instant, and the depressing nature of "Your life was here, now it's destroyed" is an immediate theme upon exiting. It's a nice idea, I'm curious to see how they do it.

That's pretty amazing, I wish I was as observant! Now wouldn't it be funny if one of us happened upon a neighborhood and we actually lived in that neighborhood irl and got to see our post apocalyptic house?

Well spotted! I actually discussed this in one of my threads a while back, but most people hadn't noticed this

EDIT: mine was only a description, your use of images makes it a lot clearer.

the Statue is Close to a non existent iotl service station,

you have to realize that the developers in Fallout 3 took a lot of liberties with locations in game to fit there story and or the map,

Certainly. That's expected, but, it's fun to find, where there is something to find, parts of the real world that have made it into the game.

This view, in Monument Square, in Concord, for instance, might be familiar -

Looking at the level of research you've been doing, I can't wait to see the mod when it's finished. Should be very interesting.

Could be some of the lateral scaling is getting made up for in some vertical adjustments slipped in; artistic license and such too.

They'll likely be wonky with the cartography in creating landscapes that look bigger by putting areas into depressions with surrounding high ground giving a skyline view and less of a hint about what might be 20 miles away.

New Vegas you could see quite far due the flat terrain for most of the map.

sticking everything in little valleys so all you see is sky when you're in that area is a little sneaky in fibbing the scale, creating an illusion of a bigger map since not everything is visible from one location.

That's just speculation though. The character home neighborhood seems to be in a bit of a depression since Concord isn't visible even from Vault 111, and Concord seems to be in a deeper depression, where even from the top of the building with the Power Armor, the Red Rocket Station is visible, but, not the neighborhood.

Game options could have had view distance settings turned down some so as to not give too much away in the preview too.

Ah Speculation. :)

Does there appear to be a real life street that correlates to the protagonist's home?

That would be fun.

Further to this question,

of course it's not the same place,

but c.128-131 Marshall Street, Boston is a good match for the 'real world' equivalent of the protagonist's home.

Sits slightly to the east of Whitney Hill park, where vault 111 is situated.

The road curves the same way, there's a path up into the park

and sight-lines are good back down the hill to MIT and central Boston.

Considered Everett Avenue on the West side but ruled that out as you can see water tower which is in the direction of MIT (to the east)

as the sole survivor heads down the hill.

Do any forumites live in Watertown, Boston?

Unless theres a Minutman memorial statue next to a large wooden bridge nearby someplace other than Minuetman park Im afraid the location of Faul 111 is next to concord.
