Is there any way to avoid random encounters? I know you can skip them sometimes, but seriously...since I patched the game, I try to move from one settlement to the next and I get bombarded with like 10 encounters. I JUST WANT TO GO TO RENO DAMNIT!

Hmm... that's sounds like a glitch, but it's not one I remember ever coming across. Just to rule out some possibilities - where are you when they're getting crippled? Is it everywhere, or have you noticed that it's in a certain area? Are you sure they're getting crippled, and it's not just that you're only just now noticing that they had been? Any possibility that they happened to be walking over a trap and you hadn't noticed?

Also, are they taking damage randomly as well, or are you just seeing crippled effects showing up?

In other words - we'd probably need more data to be of any help with that. (Unless someone else has encountered this before and knows what's going on.) :)

Well, the first time it happened, there was an explanation: a couple of them got caught in the blast when I blew up the outhouse in Modoc. I used my doctor skill on them until they were healed (took a while). Then I get into an encounter with the merchant with slaves that won't trade to me because of good karma, and the same ones that WERE crippled are still running away from the fight. So I examine them just before they leave the visible map and they still have them.

PS- I also forgot about resistances with armor and that a higher AC on certain leather won't stop bullets better than a metal armor with less AC. <_<

Their fire resistance is rather low. They also retreat from battle if one of their legs gets crippled.

Personally I managed to acquire the .223 pistol (3 actually) in various special encounters across the wastes long before I encountered the wanamingos. Even though it was still ridiculously difficult for me to clear out the Wanamingo mine, I tried to use my best strategy to get into combat with the least number of them possible by attracting them just from the edge of their patrol patterns (I would get them in groups of 3-5 at a time) and believe me there was a whole lot of reloading involved.

While my companions at the time didn't have much in terms of weapons; I had Vic with an FN Fal, Sulik with a submachinegun, Cassidy with the HK CAWS and Marcus with his minigun, I can't say I would have passed the damn mine if it weren't for the .223. Even still Vic disappeared on me in this mine and never showed up again but I wasn't going to go through the mine for the twentieth time simply to save his butt.

By the time I reached Vault 13, I had the alien blaster and that makes mince meat out of the aliens, especially if like me you had enough to fire it 5 times (Was really hard to get that working with the stats I originally chose!). I've only faced them with those 2 weapons so I don't know how the in between weapons fare against them.

It'll take a lot of shots and many a reload but the .223 is your friend. Patience is also mandatory with those @#$%% I think they were the most difficult opponents outside the Enclave and Deathclaw packs :swear:

A little late, but a good thread nonetheless.

I believe for the pormstar thing, endurance and agility factor moreso than charisma, if chrisma does at all. I know I've tried doing it and most of the time I'm told that I either don't have the stamina for it or I'm not flexible enough.

You can get instant auditions for "acting" roles if you are a made man of any of the local families, a prizefighter, or if you are on a specific quest for Jesus Mordino Sr.

As I recall, a good strategy was to have plenty of Action Points and the Bonus Move perk. This allowed me to shoot at the wanamingos, and then move away so they couldn't catch me. Just keep retreating and fireing. Also, in a pinch, you can exit the mine from one end, and reenter it from another, to catch them off guard. Its not like Fallout 3. You have to work for your kills.

Don't you talk down to me.

I'd be taking the wanamingos down left and right if I hadn't taken Fast Shot.
