"Dynamic Dialogue" and bloody Easter Eggs

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:02 pm

sooo...

"Mr. Handy can actually say your name—be it John, or something more ridiculous like “Mr. [censored]face.” He will vocalize it all the same. I can't wait to see all the offensive and silly names that people come up with! In any case, Mr. Handy is voiced by Stephen Russel, who PC Gamer notes also voiced Garret in Thief. Finally, the inside of Mr. Handy is actually modeled, because I guess Bethesda wants to make sure you can see the details if he's ever blown up. "

We were told that the names were recorded. 1000 of them... did they make this new "dynamic" system in the last few weeks? LOL...

I have been telling anyone that would listen for a few years now that "dynamic dialogue" is in our lifetimes. Where a "true" AI could put together the dialogue on the fly. This I think could be one step closer to my predictions.

And the idea that they modeled the inside of the robot, that made me think hypothetically that if all actors were done that way, would this be LESS immersion breaking (be it a bit more horrifying) on those occasions that player camera clips thru them and you can see the insides?

That's going to be VERY interesting indeed.

“As I live and breath! Mr. [censored]face? Is it...really you?”

Actually I don't think it will say all your names. That would be impossible ;) They just added some funny ones into the list.

Nahhhyyyyyy, not impossible at all. They already have programs now that you can type words to the PC and it plays back in an audible "voice". It is just that they are not very good as they were made over a decade ago. My thought was that maybe Beth developed a "good" one that sounds passable.

If that is indeed the case that is going to be a god send to modders and a huge blow to voice actors lol...

But now that I think about it, if they really did that it would have been much bigger news. So how did this get reported so out the reality?

The reporter was very clear about it playing ANY name (see my OP).

Edit: rats...checking other sources confirms that it is indeed just a lot of record names.

Sorry but Kotaku basically did some Ad-lib onto what Todd actually said. He said they'd added in some funny joke names like Mr [censored]face, he never said Codwsworth would vocalize ANYTHING you put into the name slot.

After all, Kotaku is a [censored] journalist website

they have been recording for the past 2 years. Literaly the only diference between the old fasioned way of doing things is that now instead of the NPC s conversation being

Dialogfragmen 1a (playervalue)Dialogfragment1b

For example

Hey there Elf I have a problem you might want to look at

Or

Hey there Orc I have a problem you might want to look at

Or

Hey there old salt I might have a problem you might want to look at (WoW tested something simular for a bit useing your current or most recent earned in game tital as an option)

its now

Dialog(namefile)Dialog

so the npc will say something like

Hey there spook I have a problem you might want to look at *

or

Hey there um . . how exactly do you pronounce your name anyhow. . .never mind I have a problem for you to look at...

*(I suspect the game will try to look at whatever you put in and see if it can make or match to a similar name or just truncate the name, I suspect it defaults to saying something along the lines of Whatever your name is or simular)

I just hope Cathy will be a name. Should be...

Bonus points if she can be called Princess.
