Sooo... Dogmeat again?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:10 pm

Dogmeat isnt the same dog as in f3

And Dogmeat in f3.isnt the same as 1 and 2.

They are all just called dogmeat as homoage to f1 and as i said the fallout series is greatly influenced by A boy and his dog so f1 dogmeat is a homoage to that story.

A dog companion is a must in a fallout. That dog will always be called dogmeat even if his name is something else because of all of the above.

Just watch A boy and his dog and see how much it influenced fallout. You can also watch madmax

I felt sorry for Rex because we ripped out his old brain and spooned in another. You basically killed one dog and severely maimed another in that game. What they should have done is transplanted his conciousness but even then it would mean killing the brain of the donor. Arrrrgghh... Can't win that one for love nor money.

I liked the new Dog as soon as he cocked his head while listening and then smiling when he joined the protagonist (ie jaw open tongue lolling doggy smile). Then when he took down that Synth I said "YUP... Sod the Mr Handy... I WANT THAT DOG!".

But it's definitely from the book of a Boy and his Dog. They even made a movie of it back in 1975... Remember when at the end they meet up with this girl and they are hungry and the girl says that they have to kill to dog for his meat if they are to survive... then you find out that the one to survive is... DOG! lol. That was one WEIRD film. At least our Dogmeat isn't telepathic. That would probably get old.... quick!

I liked it in one of the videos (Atom Bomb Baby video) where a flying insect was buzzing around the dog's head and the dog was moving its head around. I like those interactions.

As for the topic, I am mixed about the name being re-used. On one hand, it isn't the same Dogmeat from FO3 which it would be better with a new name, but at the same I do like the name.

Yeah, the little mannerisms (or should that be doggerisms lol) make the immersion factor so much higher. It seems Dogmeat is going to be more of an assistant this time and not more of the lame duck like the one in Fallout 3 was. You spent more time trying to keep him alive in 3 and the only good news was the Puppies! perk for when he died. At least in New Vegas the companions just go unconcious if beaten.

I also wonder if there will be a human companion PLUS dogmeat or a robo plus a human or some mix. I hope so. It would be awesome if the companions interacted like Bioware companions do (but a bit too much to hope for). Ioved the Mass Effect lift conversations or the Dragon age interludes while you walk to the next location. They make them feel more alive that way. At least Beths has got rid of the OMGINNAYOURFACEARRRGGGHHH conversation method out of the game now. The angled interview method looks a whole lot better.

Wasteland

Never played FF, so i don't know what Biggs And Wedge is.

And it looks like they're going full on Hearthfire City 2000 on this game. :D (But they'll probably sneak in a G.E.C.K-quest somewhere)

But back on topic: What is really weird though, i my mind, is that a lot of the people that are playing the Fallout series now, don't even know why Dogmeat was so dear to our hearts in the first place.

Because a large part of the "new" players weren't even born when Fallout 1 came out. And as we see, time and time again on these forums, many of them don't care to play the originals anyway.

I'm not saying anything's wrong with that. Just pointing it out that the endearment to Dogmeat might be a bit lost on some players (and on Bethesda ).

I was hoping to rename him. In my eyes I will always see that dependable Aussie Blue Heeler from Fallout 1 and Mad Max. Having him modeled on some Bethesda employee pet is just wrong. Make him a German Shepard if they want, but let me rename him.

Ah, give Dogmeat of FO3 a break... he and Fawkes had a lot health, just wish, well companions in general, chill if the enemy is suspicious (not found) yet ruin it when they automatically attack... hope that feature is better in FO4.

As for the companion, it seems from reading the IGN person at QuakeCon it is only one companion, no matter the "species". That part I do not like, but there has to be a reason for it (immortal companion the reason? Even that, still svcks, but a different topic on its own).

Wasteland was what type of game they wanted to do (and it was inspired by the same things as fallout). The inspiration was from A boy and his dog and madmax.

And it kind of was. Fargo etc

But i never liked wasteland (i prefer just controlling one character, fits the lore much better to) but loved fallout 1 so in my book it was beta and finished product

Either way, let's get back on topic.

I personally would like the option of naming my dog. Hell, I'd like there to be different types of dogs i can recruit, Fx: I'd like to see the Devil Dog, that was supposed to be in Van Buren, make an appearance. That dog looked awesome on paper, plus the quest line to obtain it was cool, as opposed to just running into the it and "Boom! we're best friends now".

Edit: Also the choice to make Dogmeat invulnerable sounds, too me, as if the AI haven't been improved.

Good idea (getting back on topic)

Naming it is cool with me, dont care one way or another. But id always name it Dogmeat anyway

I think one dog with great animations like they seem to have done is much better than splitting their attention to many.

I also really like the germansheperd choice

I seriously hope we get to name our dog when we encounter him. That way, with mods, I can have my female rottie, name her Roxy, and head out into the wasteland, sur-oh wait, Survival isn't there anymore?...Then what, I can't cook the meat of mutated animals and make interesting spices?...Oh okay then, so I just go out and eat 200 year-old food again :I

I'd guess it's because everyone has a different taste in dogs so they just picked a breed that's well liked by most people. If the dog was most of the breeds suggested I would leave it at wherever it goes when you dismiss it and never pick it up again or shoot it myself in the case of a chihuahua.

I've been pretty indifferent about Dogmeat in the series so far but after re-watching the E3 footage I'm going to give the dog a try. Looks like he's got some personality.
