Okay, I'm stumped

Well, I finally set up my game just the way I wanted it, and the first fight I get into, the thief in the first room of Addamasartus chucks some pink bolt of magic at me that kills me instantly. I didn't think I had any mods that altered NPC spellcasting, and according to Mlox the Brittlewind Bug is fixed in the UMP, so what the heck is causing this?

EDIT: The spell bug has been taken care of, but now the Twin Lamps mod isn't working right. The slaves in Addamasartus are giving me the vanilla dialogue for "Go Free" instead of askimg me to lead them to a safehouse, etc. Where's the conflict there? I have all the patches I know of...

Sounds like an autocalc problem. I've heard the latest version of UMP may cause this (I'm not using it but it came up in the UMP forum IIRC)

Oh, that happens to me all the time. The first fireball spell is a killer. :( The worst part is when I forget to even make my first save game before taking on that spell caster. I try to sneak down, then I rush/jump spastically at him and hope I don't die. Ideally, I'd poke him with arrows, but at level one, my character's aim stinks.

Not the spellcaster - the woman who should be stabbing you with a dagger, not hucking spells!

Apparently it was caused by Wakim's Game "Improvements." Once I took them out, she stopped doing it.

Apparently it was caused by Wakim's Game "Improvements." Once I took them out, she stopped doing it.

Oh, good to know! Was it the module version of WGI? If so, which one(s)? I was thinking of using them - it'd be good to know which ones I should avoid or attempt to tweak to remove the issue (i.e. doing reckless things in the Morrowind Enchanted Editor).

It's possible that RoHT is to blame for your inconvenience. I accidentally set a powerful "absorb health" spell ("Alighiere's Bloodthirst") to "Auto Calculate Cost" which means that low level characters can use it as well. I've fixed it in the upcoming version 1.4. For the meantime, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8437. I'm really sorry for that unfortunate oversight.

Ah, that must be it! I suspected it was an Absorb Health spell from the pink color. I'll give that a try too.

Um - if you are at Addamasartus is it becuase you have started a new game? If so these 3 should be the first slaves you have released and therefore the Twin lamps topic don't kick in until you have released 9 or more slaves - so they will just ask to go free and then wait until you have left the cell before they are disabled - I don't think I've ever led those ones anywhere before

In previous games, they have asked me to lead them to a safehouse, but not mentioned the Twin Lamps.

What happens if you move "_028_ Nevena's Twin Lamps & Slave Hunters 1.5.esp" lower in your load order? Have you tried using TESPCD? If you try a "single vs all" check it might pick out the conflicting mod...

This isn't one I've heard of before
