Fallout 4 using Xbox One's Kinect...sound stupid right?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 5:19 am

I predict that most everyone is going to buy this game on the PC or Xbox One since Xbox One will support PC mods (but that's only if you are into that sort of thing).

But when microsoft said that they wouldn't be using the connect much longer it got me thinking. Private companies may still dabble in it. I mean we all saw the reveal how you can pick up scrap and build your own houses and guns. we have also seen other Kinect games fail because of too many hands in the air or or people in the room while trying to do these tasks in the game.

Now they already made a fallout app and are preparing to launch another so you can work that pip-boy/iPhone thing.

Let me know your view on the topic would Kinect screw Fallout 4 up on the xbox one IF added. And for you PS4 People would you also buy a PC version if Bethesda doesn't support PC mods on PS4?

Kinect svcks and I feel that Bethesda realizes this, so I feel that any kinect integration would be minimal and forgettable.

I'm a PS4 player and I feel that there will be mods on the system because Microsoft forced Sony's hand into including that feature, lest players flock to the more complete Xbox One version. If PS4 won't have mods, then I might get FO4 on a Steam sale down the road, assuming I can get a PC that can handle it.

What a disjointed OP.

To actually answer the question (I think?), I doubt that there will be Kinect support. They developed Kinect features for all of 15 minutes with Skyrim as a "do what you want" thing, and I never heard of it being a big craze for the fanbase.

From what I hear the PS4 version is getting mods at some point but I could be wrong. If the PS4 version don't get mods it will pretty much mean I won't get any DLC or there next TES or Fallout game day one. I'm not going to jump to PC just for mods but I don't like spending full price for something when I don't get all the features because I picked the wrong piece of plastic.

Also MS is pretty much over the Kinect.

Let me tell you a brief story.

Early in 2014, Microsoft noticed that its sales of the new Xbox One was... less than stellar. No matter their marketing techniques, they just couldn't sell the damn things to sell at the minimum rate they wanted to. So, someone gets an idea. It's a crazy idea, but what if Microsoft quits selling the Xbox One bundled with Kinect? They'll still sell the Xbox One, but make the Kinect as a seperate purchasable item. Out of ideas, Microsoft goes with the insane plan.

Sales of the Xbox One doubled almost overnight.

Moral of the story: The Kinect is such a piece of crap that bundling it with the Xbox One was causing Microsoft to loose sales of the game system.

Simply put, people dislike the Kinect so much that they refuse to buy a game system if it is only sold bundled with Kinect. Kinect support is a dead-end for game development, basically.

I never used connect. I don't see it being a thing in Fallout 4.

I remember trying to dragon shout in skyrim with the kinect, and having it just auto save...

The Kinect was a novelty and with certain games is fun...But by god, it cannot be implemented well with all games.

Maybe if they made a Fallout Kinect spinnoff railshooter. Fallout: Knight of the BOS or something.

I doubt there will be any Kinect features for Fallout 4. At least not right out of the gate. Maybe there will be some Skyrim style niche addition further down the road, but I hope not. Focus on stability and quality across all versions of the game instead and make sure that all the core systems work the way they are meant to.

When you think about it, we're already getting Second Screen with the smart phone app Adding Kinect functionality just...it's a carrot tossed into a stew, just to add a carrot.

No.
It wasn't because it was "crap". It was because, "Omg, big brother is going to watch me scratch myself while I game in my underwear. And since its always hooked up, they'll watch my living room 24/7, because they have nothing better to do"
And it never recovered from that stigma.

Kinect was a Xbox exclusive thing , it used up resources on the x box, and putting in Xbox support in your game ended up being non trivial for a product that could only work on one of three platforms.

The Kinect had a lot of potential as a gaming interface, but 1) the games that were developed for it were... less than stellar, and 2) I don't think the actual tech was responsive and precise enough to do much beyond cartoony sports games. I'd have loved a Bethesda-style game with (well-executed) full Kinect control, but I think that was a bit beyond what the system was capable of.

It was a bad idea by someone who didn't really care about games. Don Mattrick thought that because the usage data showed that most people were using their 360 to watch Netflix that people would choose a console based on the streaming experience. So instead of actually trying to bring in companies to make games for the Kinect 2.0 they spent most of their resources on the OS and voice commands. This guy is just another musical chairs http://venturebeat.com/2015/04/08/why-ceo-don-mattrick-is-done-at-zynga/ before people realize that he doesn't know what the [censored] he's doing. He ruined an amazing brand.

And how would that work when you have twice as many PS4 owners world wide?

Nah, I think I'll still go with the former, in that it was nothing more but a crappy gimmick. This coming from someone who owns an Xbox One, and probably would not have bought one if they had continued shoehorning the uselessness of the Kinect onto the Xbox.

But OP, I'm pretty sure the Kinect is just dead at this point, and even Microsoft themselves know this.

sure...and it svcked...did we already mention it svcked? Because it really svcked. A very minor group were freaking out over the privacy stuff because anyone had the ability to unplug the thing, especially after it didnt work 90% of the time. MS knew it svcked so they stripped it for the survival of the system, i know i refused to get a Xbox One until i could get it without Kinect, it had nothing to do with privacy, it was because it was a waste of money and svcky gimmick

My sister did comment how well it picked up the definition of her briasts, I see an outlet for airport security to get their jollies with it.
