Fallout 4: Bigger Battles, Better Shooting & Less Clunky

Why is a radial favorites menu bad for PCs? I liked it just fine in Dishonored; I found that much more intuitive and quick to use than Skyrim's list-o-gear.

And the new looting has nothing to do with console/PC - it just means you can see what's inside a container before activating it. It's streamlined (and a huge time-saver for scavengers, same as the [empty] marker in the last games), and I can see how it's less realistic, but I have no idea how it can be construed as "Bethesda doesn't care about PCs".

It's just another case of emotional overreaction. It's angering to read but I guarantee you most of these people will shut up after the game releases.

-Game handles large scale, multi party combat much better than before, especially with VATS.

Good to hear.

-Skill system appears to be gone, replaced with a perk system that is based around your SPECIAL stats instead. Each point of stat unlocks a different perk, so if you start with ten Strength, for example, you can potentially take even the last Strength based perk right at the start.

Hmm...interesting concept, haven't formed a good opinion of it yet.

-Looting corpses is more streamlined, you seem to be able to mouse over them and see their contents, instead of interacting with them like a container.

Hm, does add a bit of realism I suppose.

-Radial menu for weapon equips. Hooray for consoles, svcks for PCs

Ha ha ha ha.

*ahem* I'm used to this, having seen this from Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto V. Oh, and the Saints Row series.

-Can shoot off limbs of feral ghouls, including legs, and they will crawl at you like typical zombie game style enemies.

Now this looks creepy and cool. Thanks, Bethesda, for giving my nightmares more ammo. :D

-Brotherhood of Steel is confirmed to be a potential friendly faction, mentioned that the player can "call in backup" from friendly factions.

Guess I'd better prepare a character per faction, then. :D I want to get the full experience of Fallout 4.

-Protagonist will self narrate while walking around the gameworld. Oh God please no.

Relax, I'm sure it's just like what we see in the demo. There will be fixed locations in the game world where you press a button to 'interact' and Howard/Nora will vocalize a commentary about whatever it is they're/you're looking at. I doubt they're going to wax lyrical like they're Max Payne.

-Radiation in the game no longer works like in previous games. Instead of taking away from your stats, it now works exactly like it does in Fallout Shelter, where it takes away from your maximum health on your health bar.

That actually makes a lot more sense as you're supposed to be, well, dying of radiation poisoning.

-Melee has critical hit animations, mentioned was hitting someone in the nuts to knock them down, then bashing their head with a baseball bat while they are on the ground.

Wow. Howard/Nora sure know how to use melee weaponry. o___o

I can't speak much for the radial menu, but for RPG video games, the PC versions of those RPG video games a drag and drop inventory system is better.

The looting I never said has PC or console problems. I said how does it work does it work like the very few RPG video games I have seen where you point the mouse cursor over the loot and it shows you the name of all of the items before you loot them? That's what it reads like to me.

if done then starting the minigame it would work, kind of the animation then activating an crafting station in Skyrim who is an nice touch. And as long as he shuts up if you sneak up to an terminal.

We all know remember how Lydia sometimes commented that we should explore the dungeon we just exited. Pretty common if it had an separate exit.

If the character starts doing stuff like that it will be an instant meme.

I can just picture it.

Protagonist - That looks like a nice cave to explore

Follower - We were just in there and is infested with Death Claws and filled with Radiation. Did you forget to take the Radaway with you again.

Follower - Dogmeat go find Radaway.

Dogmeat - Bark

Made a bit worse that talking out load then alone is seen as an sign of insanity or low intelligence. Curses is one exception if used rarely like then almost trigger an mine.

That one makes sense see my exception on curses as the only thing sane people says out alone.

I'm no fan of drag-n-drop, personally. For me, it slows down inventory management; like in Morrowind or Minecraft it's slower to equip items or move things between containers compared to Oblivion or New Vegas. Morrowind especially, since a lot of the thumbnails (potions and books in particular) were hard to identify, and alphabetical order isn't as helpful with a grid. To be fair, this is *really* nitpicky, and drag-n-drop has never made me like a game less. I mean, if I could handle the UI for Daggerfall, then a game UI would have to be *really* awkward to sour a game for me.

The way container searching is described, it sounds like you're right; like in older games, our crosshair would give us the button prompt and tell us if the container was empty; this time it does that, and also pops up a small screen that shows what's inside. I think it will also give us two button prompts this time, too; one for taking all the items, and a "transfer" option that opens up our inventory next to the container's and move items around like we're used to.

That last bit is kinda shown in the E3 combat compilation: at the part where the ghoul is blasted by the exploding car, you can pause it just as the corpse meets our crosshair and see button prompts for "Take" and "Transfer". This would also be consistent with how Todd described the dialog interface in an interview; it's all contextual, so our crosshair shows us multiple button prompts based on what the activator is.

NEWKA-CAWLA.

The radiation bit seems a nice thing, though. It would've been better if they just added it to the new system, since getting many rads is almost impossible.
