dumb super mutants.

I find motivations like that sad.

I'd rather see super mutants represented as a subspecies of humans with all kinds of different character traits, motivations and so forth.

Fallout doesn't need generic green orcs as cannon fodder and enemies - Fallout should have the environment (post nuclear war) and other humans as their enemies (war. war never changes.)

Mutants add some variety to an otherwise standard enemy list. Do I think super mutants have to be the enemy always? No, there could be plenty of other mutants to fill such roles. Stating that humans should be the only enemy disregards alot of the things that makes fallout fallout.

Unfortunately your wrong as they did since Beth determined this. You are right that it was invented for convenience, but so are most things in games. They made up a reason for them being there that makes sense, even if you don't like the direction they went.

*I would like something like these, and some dumb supermutants (since we know they are in FO4), but I would also like some intelligent ones like the Lieutenant, and for them to keep the explanation for it from Fallout, rather than harp on with the alternate strain.

They can ignore it of course, but it's already been done; and they are just trying to tack on their cosmetic patches to the established lore.... including ripping a few holes in it to then patch them as best they can.

** I think they could have done better than try to tamper with what was already established. They could have invented the boundaries for something new, instead of treading on the ones from something recycled.

Retconning and breaking old lore happens when ever sequels are made, just sometimes less than other times. The whole super mutant thing isn't that big a jump from the original lore though. Doubt black isle would've went there, but it isn't outside of something they may have ended up exploring. As for intelligent super mutants it's likely that there is one out there somewhere if not leading them. I always wondered if the whole stupidity of the DC super mutants came more from there "live stock" than the virus itself. Considering the state of DC I would suspect the mutants settled for less than stellar humans.

Please don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say that humans should be the *only* enemies.

I want humans to be the main enemies and this includes the human subspecies - ghouls and mutants. And those, as subspecies, should be representing the whole range of humanity, from good to evil, from brainiac to mentally-handicapped, from tribal to high-tech.

What I don't want is generalizing a group down like the super mutants to the equivalent of fantasy orc/ogres. Cannon fodder for the player to gain loot and experience from. And apparently amuse with dumb dialogue.

My apologizes, I completely misinterpreted your post. You'll have to forgive my poor reading comprehension there, I'm a bit drowsy.

Considering the vaults were built to withstand nuclear attacks and have their own laboratories i think they qualify as a secure enough place to house the FEV virus.

care to explain this "established lore" ?

AFAIK none of the vaults have a means of destroying the virus if it broke containment; labs like I suggested, and Mariposa, did.

I could say no, but only because I didn't think it needed it. I meant what we've already seen in the games.

which was? If your talking about the self destruct one could've been installed in a vault easily enough. Even so mariposa's self destruct didn't work all too well anyway.

pre-war: vault tech could locked down the vault indefinitely incase of a breach, we know its possible to remote connect in from fo3&4 or simply the oversear locking the vault down or even overloading the reactor.

i just don't see any concrete lore that would prevent super mutes from existing outside the west coast .
