Still a bit odd, but significantly better than Fallout 3. Guns actually recoil now, animations are significantly more in depth. Most guns have ironsights (sans minigun, etc.).

If you're expecting industry leading FPS gunplay, you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting Fallout 3 gunplay, you'll be amazed.

I personally think it's great.

I think that's the best way to sum it up.

It feels really good and responsive. To the point where I'll often forget VATS exists. And I used VATS a LOT in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

It took a few times to break my habit of backpedaling when an enemy runs close up to you while you are shooting. "Wait. Why am I backing up?" Pistol whipping for the win.

It's definitely smoother and closer to a more modern fps shooting wise.

I am using VATS more than in Fallout 3/NV. I am about 50 percent usage. In Fallout 3 I was about 2% usage and in NV about 25% give or take 10%. I am on Xbox One and find it quite good in both modes and both of them have improved.

I can ACTUALLY kill someone (thing) without VATS now. 3/NV had to use it all the time. Much better, much improved!

It's got it's good points and bad points good points is its more real bad points is you can use the trick to stop form being hurt like in fallout 3 a Nv fast moving targets when thay get close you could stop time 3 close rage head shots to kill them stoping you form really takeing any damage at all

A-. Not as good as an FPS, but then I don't expect it to be. Better than the previous titles but could still use a little improvement. I have not yet noticed as I have not run into one, can you target a grenade in an enemy's hand in VATS and blow them righteously to tiny bits like you could in Fallout 3 at first until that one patch removed that option?

I'm still getting used to the fps portion of the game. The enemies move too quick, I almost got killed by radroaches. RADROACHES!!!! The last game I played with fps gunplay was New Vegas and that was a year ago.

I give it a B-, much improved.

Melee however, a F-. Worse than FO3. Slow and sluggish attacks with awkward delays, no crits outside of Vats so far for me (THE thing that made melee/unarmed competitive), and simply not well balanced for Survival mode.

I never used it in NV or 3. Have to use it here some times. I don't like it when I aim at the head and I am missing. 4 took a step in the wrong direction.

It is good, but not great. It's no Destiny or Halo, shooting-wise, but it is a significant improvement on 3 and New Vegas.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I plan on rarely using VATS on my first play through.

I was always a VATS person in the old Fallout games and this time, I feel like it's actually way better to use the normal combat system

pretty good ^^

the changes to the .ini settings on PC, to remove the mouse acceleration, make it even better ^_^

Ive been playing on a 360 controller on PC so its not as precise but with that in mind, Id say probably a B-

For a comparison I play GTA V with the same setup sometimes, and its noticeably easier, especially anything in 3rd person.

Mouse accelleration is too much, I don't understand why games keep doing this, how does it make a game better?
