Is Survival difficulty hardcoe mode?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 5:09 am

Earlier today when I booted up the game for the first time I noticed that the hardest difficulty was "Survival". Has anyone put it to this setting and does it resemble the hardcoe mode that was in new vegas in a way?

Sadly no, it is essentially Legendary mode from Skyrim. It adds no thirst or hunger, or sleep at all. All it does is makes you much easier to kill and increases spawn of "legendary enemies" which drop good loot, I have yet to see one though.

I do hope they add hardcoe in a later patch like they did with legendary difficulty for Skyrim.

Survivor makes healing items heal over time so they took that from hardcoe. So theres that.

I was excited when I noticed this as spamming healing items to get through fights is a pet peeve of mine. But since its part of combat difficulty I won't be using it as its essentially nightmare difficulty. I normally play these sorts of games on hard or even normal. I would love it if it was seperate from combat difficulty and just did the stimpak thing, and made ammo scarce and made is so you couldn't heal a crippled limb except with a doctor and couldn't heal by resting. Just those few things I'd be more than happy with.

Here's a video that goes into some detail.

It's explained in the menu... :glare:

The game will kick your ass on Survival. Food and water now heals a lot more, but very slowly. Stimpaks heal slower too. hardcoe mode was basically an inconvenience more than anything. Survival difficulty is a challenge.

As for the bullet sponges, I've been playing for about 15 hours. Haven't encountered any bullet sponge enemies apart from a deathclaw. Try it out. See if you like it, and if you don't you can always change it at anytime. I am having a lot of fun with it.

How do you change the difficulty? I just launched it with default settings. Didn't even see an option.

Is this at the start only or anytime throughout play?

Hey

When I saw survival mode I thought it would be like the one in NV.. sorry forgot the name. But, then nothing like that happened so I put it down to normal.........................................................................

I really have no words to express the amount of emptiness I feel at that. It's as if they added this "Survival" at the last minute and couldn't even be bothered.

They should have taken some elements such as this out of FNV - along with its dialog/reputation system. They didn't and it's one of the things they (deservingly) are cricized for.

I heavily disagree that it was an inconvenience.

Yeah, it was a tad shallow (but it could've been heavily expanded upon) and not very hard to die from food and water and sleep, but hey, it gave you just a little extra something to look out for, and it gave food a real purpose too! Remember how pointless cooking and such was in Skyrim? Yeah, I do. Mainly because potions did the same things except better in every way. Sustenance on the other hand could not and would not have been something potions (or in Fallout's case, chems) could've given you, automatically giving food a purpose and place in both the elder scrolls and fallout universe, instead of just being a very low end, last ditch healing capability if by some miracle you ran out of potions or chems. Especially now that stims with maximum medic skill can FULLY RESTORE HEALTH IN A SINGLE USE.

Is there any real reason whypele that think eating drinking and sleeping are hardcoe can't just do so themselves every few days? I don't see much of a point in needing any of those thingsbecause they are all so plentiful to just have 3 meals a day and sleep nightly as it is.

I do miss needing splints for brokenbody parts though; and it would be very neat if with survival activated thatradiation storms would give constant radiation instead. of only for a little while when lightning strikes. Spikes would be higher too, maybe 15 at max and slowly sink to 1 rads a second until the next strike.
