Bethesda, u dropped a ball on this one.

No, they didn't.

Fusion cores are rare and expensive in the early game - good luck doing anything beyond Concord unless you specifically plan (i.e. meta game) from the beginning for fusion cores. Also, 5mm ammo is rare in the beginning of the game, so that mini-gun should be out by the end of Concord (at least mine was). Players are going to be running around with 10mm or .38 ammo for most of the beginner stuff - probably well into the mid-game as well.

p.s. play on hard+ and see if that PA/minigun let's you continue "tearing up the wasteland at level 2." It won't - trust me. Grenade spam, molotovs, and hell that intro death claw will eat you for breakfast. Good items aren't exactly a free pass in this game.

I'm really enjoying the game so far; actually, I'm surprised by how much I like it. The settlement addition has really drawn me into the game and given my character a purpose other than the one provided for her (finding her son). I've played for about 10 hours and haven't made it very far as I'm taking my time but so far am having a blast!

They're a main faction. Therefore main quest related. And it is an invalid argument to pretend they don't exist when it's made VERY clear that they do. If they were set away off the first road I'm traveling then maybe, but in this case, no. You may as well say "Ignore the legion at Nepton in NV". It's on the main path. It's made clear. It's there, wherever factual or fictional. There's only so much you can ignore before it's quite clearly in your face. You also failed to state WHY my argument is invalid. At least add reasons and logic to your arguments.

Since when was fast travel ever immersive? Maybe with travel points (which is my very idea between power armor stations. Somewhere the armor can "rest") but just randomly dropping into a wasteland to skip the radiation and monsters? It's quite simple, "fast travel to danger spot to skip through wasteland filled with deathclaws and radscrops to preserve fuel and not actually play through the wasteland". I actually avoid doing that but some people can't help themselves when the option is there. And it's those people you're not taking into consideration. There are moments where I can help myself, but sometimes can not, despite wanting too. And I imagine others are the same. Because if it gets the job done, people WILL use and abuse it. Limiting fast travel to armor stations would limit use and encourage exploring the wasteland as opposed to simply "Fast travel to already known danger spot". That same logic also applies to the first power armor. People WILL get it, even if they want to not use it. Because it's that carrot on a stick. If you can't understand that then this conversation has run its course. It's "Easy loot" with "little effort".

Show of hands, how many people here can actually honestly say they won't pick it up when it's right there? The very place you can jump down a building and mow people down. I'm going to grab the damn thing because it's there and I can use it and kick ass. Then I'll leave it at a power armor station so I don't abuse it.

You didn't think to go back for it? Distract with a companion and walk off while the deathclaw is busy?

Sounds like there's a divide on PA. Seems they wanted it to be a taste of power (armour) but some players find it too easy to keep after the initial taste? Hm. Maybe the first fix up should have been a whole questline. Or they could have extended the pre-war opening and put the taste in there.

The best thing to have done would have been to have the Brotherhood "confiscate" it after the fight. Or have the power armor become faulty and need fixing later. Or even blow up or something. This would have given the players the chance to have that taste of power at the start and leave room to get/repair power armor later in the game with more effort and resources.

Either that or get people (Probably Synth when so far in the storyline along with whoever else you made mad) sent after you while in the power armor. Because people want your [censored]. New Vegas had bounties after all. Could have been expanded upon here.

Better yet... Do all that and then make the player travel the wasteland to reach that power armor at a certain place. THAT would be perfect. "Oh NOW I need it! Welp, guess I can head back without using Rad away."

Well i am just under five hours into the game, i have already found three PA frames , two of which are fully armoured up and repaired, also found four power cores, and i have not really even left the starter area yet. All these i have found by just exploring every single area i can before moving on to a new place, though collecting the last frame caused me to use up the last of my mini gun ammo and die three time.. However i find myself reluctant to actually use the PA in case i really really need it later on and cannot because i have "used it up already"... So treating PA as "consumable" like a stim or chem seems to be the way to go.

I am firmly in the "why have I got PA already" camp. I get that its a bit faulty and you need to find more power cores but why did they feel the need to give us a powerful bit of kit within 20 mins?! In FO3 I remember seeing it on the brotherhood thinking I couldn't wait to get it. And when I did steal some I find I need training to use it (something that is apparently irrelevant in FO4!). I then spent hours waiting in anticipation and the same can be said for a companion tbh. Again, why give me one within a few mins of gameplay, it just removes the things to look forward to but I reckon the game is aimed at appealing to people new to the series/console who are maybe more impatient. Combined with the manual resolution fix and keybindings shocker, I am massively disappointed with this game so far, despite the considerable improvement in gameplay and graphics. Now hoping for a MP mod of some sort because with all the crafting and building it is screaming out for a survival type mod (like 7 days to die), Hint Hint modders :goodjob:

Is it possible to pass on the power altogether? Or is the game designed that it is necessary to complete the mq or even just survive? Thanks.

If people are going to complain/criticize, they need to stick with actual facts of what is or is not in the game, not personal preference. The latter simply means you need to make your own game and compete with BGS and other companies, or even indie developers. Fallout 4 will almost certainly surpass Skyrim and the vast majority of RPG and Fallout fans are more than happy. That's why they are playing rather than making false complaints on forums here and elsewhere (false as in not matching what FO4 actually has and is, or has not and is not).

As far as role playing is concerned, Obsidian is a complete failure at such a game. You can roleplay anyone you wish in FO4 as far as behavior is concerned. The only problem, as with all BGS games, is the awful character aesthetics and lack of choice visually.

The whole "power armor" complaint is pointless. You don't have to get it. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do or that does not fit your character. I haven't got it yet, for example, and I've been playing since launch. Either way, it's no different than gaining a Fatman right at the start of FO3... but that only happens if you choose to focus on and follow the main quest, something that you do not have to do at all and certainly not immediately. It's very silly to make a voluntary choice and then complain about the choice you made.

I see very few mods that I consider "mature" but I always do have to mod my BGS games due to the poor character visual aesthetics, lack of fashionable outfit choices, etc. However, I have never claimed that a BGS product is somehow not a god RPG; just the opposite, as I know RPGs from all the way back with D&D and Wizardry. Again, choice of mods is personal preference while "mature" is subjective. For BGS games, the minimum requirement for "mature" would be adding choices because that is the claim that Todd, Pete, and the rest of Bethesda's marketing makes for every one of their products yet they always fail to deliver that choice as far as character aesthetics is concerned. Their own biased preference shows through in their vanilla offerings but this also makes their marketing claims false, so any mods adding choice of character visuals and outfit selection is only matching their marketing claims while maintaining all other aspects of the base game.

I agree on some points of the original post.

The skill tree is simplified but i actually grew to like it. I would still prefer the traditional skills but the perk system is fine.

When it comes to the power armor, has any of you ever tried wearing even traditional armor, as in plate armor. One is quite bulky and inflexible while wearing it indeed. Power armor would be much worse in that sense as the movement of the powered joints would be limited.

The dialogue controls are pretty bad, more on those a little later.

I confess that Commonwealth seems to be much more crowded than the wastelands in previous installments. I cant travel much at all without running into Mole rats, weird bugs or Super mutant patrols or raiders. Places of interest are much more crowded in here as well than in Fallout 3 or New Vegas - at least they seem like more crowded.

My solutions to the games problems are as follows:

1) An option to change all keyboard controls. Currently conversation arrowkeys cannot be changed to WASD, and the crafting/Pip-boy keyboard commands cannot be changed either. Why? This is extremely frustrating, and I am not even left handed.

2) "Would you please move out of my way" - feature. Unfortunately, the NPC:s often are very much in the way. A quick button to tell them to move a few steps into a random direction would be great - Something I have missed in Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas... How is it possible so many years have passed and we still cannot ask the NPC:s to kindly step out of the way?

3) Changes to the conversation system. Way too often my character says something which was nowhere near what I though he was going to say... All due to this new conversation system. I preferred the old one, but if this one is going to stay, please at least give us more information what the character is really going to say. A lot of people who play Fallout 4 do not speak English as a first language - or as a second, personally it is my third - so people often need more information about what the character is about to blurt out.

4) A quick key to initiate barter with merchants. I do not want to go through the conversation every time, and there is absolutely no reason why I should - pure laziness, I agree, but this is something I have hoped for in vain in every single Bethesda game since Morrowind.

5) Pipboy needs to change - something it really hasnt done since Fallout 3. I find there to be way too much navigation from one tab to another in the Pipboy menu; I would prefer a menu like in Morrowind, where you could see Stats, map, spells (in this case this could be quests) and inventory on one screen. That was pure genius. Not everyone wants this kind of menu, but I think this would be excellent option - those who prefer could stay in the traditional Pipboy option so familiar from fallout 3 and New Vegas. Oh, and in Morrowind you could change the sizes of those inventory and map windows to what suited you best. Why is not that a more common thing? More control over the UI would enable everyone to use one that is best suited for them.

6) More options in what information is shown when hovering over items. Why do we not have the option to choose what information is shown of items when we look at them? Weight and value being the most obvious ones, we should be able to choose if those are shown in addition to the item name. This would reduce the amount of inventory juggling and would just be more convenient.

Quite a few of these points are a matter of convenience, but that is a very important factor of the game. Things should be easy and intuitive, and if they are not, the controls and UI should be at least a little flexible so people can make them easier to use. Modding is no excuse for Bethesda to seem to leave out a lot of options and player control from their game.

In Skyrim, if you move right up into an NPC's face and stay there, the NPC will step away. This technique isn't as polite as "Please excuse me," but does Fallout 4 have it?

Why people come here to btch about the game? It's an awesome game, of course it has flaws, you just got to let it go, it's not like I can't play the game because of some bugs.

You make some valid points. I can agree on the Power Armor being introduced way too early. That and the deathclaw battle happened so soon that it really threw the story pacing off for a bit. However, I love how the Power Armor works now. Seems more "realistic" in the FO world.

I personally miss the full leveling system from the previous three titles but I would not say what they have done with it is a terrible implementation. Perhaps, very streamlined though.

Overall, it is a very solid game that reminds me a lot of Fallout 2 mixed with my best memories of Fallout 3.

I havent noticed anything like that - but then again, I never noticed that in skyrim either. If such a system is in Fallout 4 it either doesnt work for me or is just plain badly put together.

Yeah. It does have some flaws just as any game. I recall Beth stating there would be major patch support that would also be adding additional features in the future.

So, reason enough for me to remain optimistic about this already great game

... being a "main faction" does not mean that it's "main quest related." Again, you don't HAVE to go to Concord first. You could completely skip going to Concord! Like how in Fallout 3 you could completely skip going to Megaton! Or in New Vegas skip going to Prim!

And please, re-read what I've said, I said that you don't have to help them! That's not "pretending they don't exist", that's ROLE PLAYING as someone who DOESN'T care to help people or doesn't want to get involved in a fight that they don't have a stake in.

And what, pray tell, do you mean by "ignore the legion at Nipton in NV"? Do you mean, just walk by and not talk to them? Or not fight them? Because I've actually done both... as a character who wasn't interested in getting involved in OTHER people's situations. Just because "it's on the main path" doesn't actually mean you have to deal with it! This is a SANDBOX RPG! You don't have to do ANYTHING if you don't want to! Which of course would be a waste of cash... but that's what I like about Sandbox RPG's, I'm not shoehorned into doing something I don't want to or not prepared to do.

So no, my argument is not invalid, it's a fact you aren't required to help the Minutemen in Concord to push the story forward. Your argument, however, is pure opinion... "I have to do this because it's along the main path" is your opinion. Also, my argument does have reason and logic... as long as you don't change the context of what I'm saying.

I never said fast travel was immersive, I did however say that requiring people wearing power armor to only be able to travel to points with power armor stations is immersive breaking, because it makes absolutely no sense! The only way it would make sense to do this, is if you could open some kind of portal between PA stations... but that wouldn't fit in the world of Fallout.

Of course, fast travel is an OPTION, you're not forced to fast travel, you're not required to fast travel anyways. It doesn't matter if it's "immersive breaking" to you, the whole idea of what is or is not "immersive" is solely based on each person who plays the game. So your entire argument, is invalid as it's solely your own opinion. Don't use fast travel if you don't want to, it's your game, play it how you want. But don't try to dictate what other people should view as being "immersive breaking" or not.

Also, no, it's not a "carrot on a stick" idiom... carrot on a stick is about being offered rewards for hitting benchmarks, but punished when you fail; yet you never get the reward if you hit said benchmark. You don't get offered any special rewards specifically for wearing power armor, you also don't get any specific punishments for not wearing it either.

Yeah half of the original creators of this game are bad at making a role play game. Dear god I'm done with this forum. Hint: Lack of choice is a [censored] RPG. Ever notice how Fallout: New Vegas leans towards the courier just walking off after being patched up never to do anything? Most don't and follow the obvious trail.

I use it only to kill that death claw. After that I park it at the power armor station at the red rocket and never touch it again. I can't sneak and ambush enemies when wearing a giant tin can.

Fusion Cores last what 30 minutes?

At early game you can find max of about 3. Unless you meta the game and seek out cores. Even then if you start exploring, you are going to run out of juice fast.

The only way to streamroll in Power Armor is to actually park it somewhere. Find a new spot. Fast Travel back to PA. Get into PA, Fast Travel Back. And kill everything with it at location.

Even then, Mini Gun ammo is non-existent or rare for at least 50% of the game (unless you seek it out) and your power armor will get damaged in which you going to spend tons and tons of your savage to repair.

In the end, the idea of someone running about the majority of the game in PA is very hard to do. Unless you meta for it, in which case, is that not really your style? Not only that, you get companions that actively hate PA, so if you want to party with them... well PA is a bad way to gain Affinity.

And lastly for those people that dislike PA. Seriously you can NOT wear them. In fact, I only use PA once in awhile for fun. Majority of my travels is in Leather then now Combat Armor.

Also fast travel is an option, you can don't use it if you do not want. If a person, can not not use it and complains about the fact that it is there. I really got nothing to say about that, except that others might and probably do like it. So are you saying, that they should gimp all to appease a section of the player population?

Fallout 4 falls gives players tons and tons of choice. From the choice to go easy mode all the way to hard coring it. That extends to the choice of Power Armor usage and/or Fast Travel usage.

For me I like the game. It is a much better improvement to FO3 and FO:NV. Especially love the new gun system and mod system. FO3 and NV guns were all over the place. FO4 gun system is much improved. There is no longer one OPed gun that you have to use and find ammo for. All guns when modded can compete. Sure Some are more powerful but no longer at game breaking levels.
