Do you really need 8GB of RAM?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 3:53 am

I have a decent machine that only has 4GB of RAM, and I want to be able to run Fallout 4. I don't really care if I have to turn the video settings down. The rest of my specs are fine.

My PC runs Fallout 3 and New Vegas smooth as butter, but I've seen that if you don't have 8GB of RAM or more, that you can't even start the game. Is this true? And if it is, is there a way around it?

It's probably not because of graphics as in textures etc., but more because of: 64bit, less to minimum loading screens (it has to load SOMEWHERE) - I have reached Concord (I think) and the only loading screen so far was on leaving the Vault 111 (not counting loading a save:-) ).

The game works fine with 8gb. Something else is causing their crashes.

*edit* I totally misread that. Seriously just upgrade to 8gb for $40 bucks :P.

Do you even have a 64bit wibdows install? I'm suspecting not if you only have 4GB of RAM.

64bit windows is kinda a requirement too.

Does a 64bit Windows program even possibly run on a 4Gig Ram machine?

Of course it does. 4 gigs of RAM was standard when Windows 7 was released.

The Steam page says the minimum is 8gb, so I wouldn't expect it to work with only 4, that's a pretty big difference.

I run 64-bit Win 10 with 4GB RAM. Previously had Win 7 but then I upgraded to 10.

I've heard from a couple of players that FO4 runs fine with just 4GB. I can not guarantee this however.

On my machine, it looks like it is using around 4.5 - 5 gig in Sanctuary. So probably will go up from there.

I have 8gb of RAM and while playing I heard a Windows notification sound. I alt-tabbed to see what it was, and there was a dialogue window telling me "Your computer is low on memory. Please close an application." And it suggested me to close Fallout 4.

Did it suggest you close the game or force you to? As long as the game actually runs, that's good enough for me.
