Does anyone know how stores work? I can't buy anything at them, do i?

So how do they earn me money?

You have to assign a settler to one of the stores first and then you'll be able to buy from them.

EDIT: As for them earning money for you, from what I've seen they don't. Instead, they attract more settlers (and maybe random customers?). I'm hoping the more business they do, the more money they have to barter with. That would make sense and be almost as good as just giving you money.
