I think close-combat and PA in FA4 has many lacking things:
It's completely doable, just the least fun and smooth of any BGS game I've played.
I'd love a mod that makes Unarmed Weapons usable in PA, increase attack speed by 20% across the board on all melee weapons, and block pretty much last forever but drains AP.
yeah the upgrades and the damage needs a bit more buff to make it viable.
anyway i heard special animations happen when you do a critical hit, and it can happen in power armor gonna test it more... but I can see those special critical hit animations when im not wearing PA, but havent seen even a one special animations yet, maybe a bug or i was just super unlucky??? I will have to do a bit of experiment.
can anyone confirm they have seen speical attack animations of unarmed or melee combat while wearing PA?
A baseball bat is much more gettho than some fists a la Bruce Lee.
after testing a bit, it seems no special animations for PA except for the home run perk, its disappointing, im sure a mod will fix this but i find the special attack animations and kill moves disabled in PA a bit confusing. It helps you lock on the enemy target and bring more variety to your close combat... hmm
anyway i hope you can at least use power fist with power armor and use the animations and kill moves from power fist while in power armor. power fist feels really satisfying compared to other unarmed weapon as it really feels like you are punching the enemies to death while PA unarmed feels really clunky.
So after some extensive testing I found out that only the sword kill move can be used in power armor, and you cant throw or do any other power attack special animations which happen time to time when you do not wear a power armor, since except for the home run perk effect, the only special move is a sword one and only one kill move and not using any other moves, im inclined to think there is a bug that prevent
character performing these special power attack animations or kill move and special bash animations on power armor... only sword seems to have ONE animation work and it seems that it is a bug and i hope bethesda work on it.. because close combat feels far better with these animations and bash special animations are also good to watch when you use close range guns.. and if it is a bug it should be easy to fix as I think its just some codes that do not make power armor to use these animations.. and somehow only one sword animation can be used.
Also using power fist when you wear a power armor should be really considered. I love the animation and sound of power fist and it feels that you should be able to put power fist while on a power armor, but you cant..
You can't use a power fist and power armor at the same time? Why the heck not? That was never a problem in previous games.
They treat the arms of your power armor as your unarmed weapon as you can mod it to increase damage and add energy damage. the problem is the animations are really meh, and i think the damage is low? compared to heated power fist and large death claw gauntlet.... yeah its weird. i felt that unarmed combat should be paired with power armor using pain train perk and going in..
but there isnt much option and there is no kill move and special attacks in power armor... might be a bug though since only the sword animation works in power armor
That's just poor balancing then. They should've thought this through more.
Skyrim's melee was definitely more satisfying, partly of course because of the medieval setting, though your character here is capable of some rather acrobatic fight scenes.
I'd be satisfied with more killcams. I think they have all been relegated to VATS
Sorry nothing beats tripping, shoving and kicking enemies.
If you wanna do killcams outside of VATS, tap the power attack button.
Power Attack outside of Vats just gets me rekt on Survival. Slowest animation on the face of the earth.
Some modder has to srsly just increase every single swing in the game by 30% (for the Player).
Also switching to 3rd person view while in PA makes sledge/super-sledge swing like 50% faster and be held in 1 hand, rofl. (And actually feels good).
Fist brawls feels faster and more useful than in Skyrim at least though I agree both could use some speed.
Still, the tripping does come in handy as beating a guy on the ground is much easier.
so anyone think that power armor having only one specail attack animation with sword is a bug? even the bash special animations are disabled in power armor, but i feel like since there is one sworld animation that works it should be easy to enable the use of special animation attacks in power armor.
My suspicion is that it is a bug, since it doesnt make sense to have just one working animation with swords while there are more weapon types and special animations.
