DISAPPOINTED in Fallout 4 Direction

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:32 pm

Because I care so much about the Fallout franchise, I am making this post in the hope that someone somewhere with the power or ability to do something about it can act.

Why Bethesda why? Why did you dumb down the franchise? Was it to appeal to console gamers who's tolerance for complexity seems to plateu at the 'escape from wet paper bag' level?

1. No more skills. Yes you can say that the perks are in essence skills, but lets not fool ourselves. By having skill points you can fine tune a character much more dynamically, and the old perk system let you have extras with a side cost. The current system seems so blocky and linear.

2, No more hardcoe options. No hunger, no thirst, no weapon repair? These arent boring tasks, they are immersion into a theme. When you actually have to worry about those factors you too are right there in the post-apoc world, fighting for survival. Weapon repair makes rare weapons all the more special. Removal of these has only contributed to the sterile feel of the game.

3. Simple headed dialogue: where are the options?! I get 4 options every time, but they all seem to always point in the same direction! Where are the options to be bad? Were are the options to be anything other than the hero guy? Why cant I hardly interact with anyone after I talk to them? This is a catastrophe. You've made me so sad Bethesda.

On the positive side, I like the art, I like the voice acting, I like the scale, at least have not disappointed in these. Honestly its like you took Fallout 3, skinned it, stuffed it full of hay and called it Fallout 4.

Why?!?!!

1. I don't mind this level system at all. To each their own

2. That was in NV a game Bethesda didn't make.

3. I agree there really isn't a option to be bad unless you count just asking for money during a mission.

Profits my friend, plain and simple. Appeal to the masses. You all have to remember, Bethesda is out to make as much money as possible...and you accomplish that by making a game that appeals to the most people. Niche' games are now left to the indie folks. And I do believe the days of real immersive RPG elements in main stream games is gone and now considered niche. I feel bad for those that loved this genre of games.

Random traders out in the wilderness. I murder them, loot them and their shack and move on.

That said, it's still better than FO3.

........ you do realize the "skills" you're so fond of were in fact, blocky an linear right? Look as simply at lockpicking. What's the difference between me being 74 or 75 in lockpicking? Oh one simple single skill point makes a difference? That's because it was all modularized in blocks of changes. Could you see a difference between 30 in small guns and 42? I couldn't at all. It was fooling you into thinking those incremental points stashing was doing anything. The new perk system is deliberate and makes you think more about your choices than throwing a dozen points at a "skill" and not seeing any discernable change.

In the originals those marginal differences mattered. So yeah. Still a dumbing-down Streamlining! of the series' mechanics.

Was there a specific reason you needed to insult all Console users in the universe? I find your statement insulting, and untrue. :yuck:

We have to put up with many things that make the PC experience not so great. The horrible UI is for me a game breaker and I'll just play ESO till some mods fix it.

Pitiful from my point of view.

It's true. There's obviously no accounting for console = certain IQ, but there is plenty to say about how games developed for consoles or multiple platforms are very often ported poorly to the PC....almost as if an afterthought.

Oh god here comes the 'in the originals' junk. You can call it streamlining if you want, I'll call the old system dungeons and dragoning

So, why start off the whole post with trash talking other gamers? All that is going to do is make people take issue with your entire post.
And, if you are truly trying to reach Bethesda, it's a poor way to present your case.

1) Yes, skills were rolled into perks. In older games, you got one perk every few levels. The agrigate perks that replaces perks are essentially in blocks of 25 skill points. This is more skill points than you would get every leve; up in F3, even with hgh int and perks to grant extra skill points. Long story short, this balances out the amount of "pure" perks and skills that you get when you level up.
What's more it makes the SPECIAL attributes actually mean something.

2) No more hardcoe options. So what? from your opening, I take it you are not a console gamer. This means mods are always an option for you. So far, this game is much harder than F3 or NV. Ammo is pretty scarce, things actually cost a considerable ammount. Enemy AI is more difficult. Radiation actually means something. Many items have weight to them now. So what if you don't have to make sure you drink water every 5 minutes, or eat food every 15?

3) I have not got far enough for dialogues to show me how much impact they have. or experimented with different options and what they yeild. but so far, I don't mind what I am seeing.

Cheers. And please remember, everyone wants the best possible FO.
That may mean something different to different people. But let's not throw any of our fellow gamers under the bus for your perceived slights doles out by Bethesda.

Junk? Have a little respect for those who've been around before you, geez. That's like telling fans of A Song of Ice and FIre to stop complaining about Game of Thrones' changes to important aspects of the story. Preferences be damned, you can't fault fans of the source material for having opinions about the direction the series is going.

That is literally the exact opposite of what I said.

I said there is NO ACCOUNTING for the correlation between platforms and IQ, meaning attributing intelligence to a gaming platform is silly and should not be done.

Why did they dumb it down? They didn't.

Skills points removed was an improvement.

Repair degradation removed? An improvement.

Dialogue and choices, are just fine.

Oh dear, all of those items were improvements.

Shame you didn't like these changes.

How is this not on topic?

1 - OP makes post about dumbed-down Streamlined! content.

2- You attempt to correct him.

3 - Instead I correct you.

4 - You deflect an inarguable fact by telling me I'm irrelevant in discussing the lineage of the series.
5 - I say, "Geez, kid...have a little respect for those who've been here since before the fall!"

Seriously. Did you know that people who use black ballpoint pens are smarter than people who use blue ballpoint pens? I just made that one up.
